I’ve also got Nord VPN. It’s pretty good but sometimes you need a couple of tries to connect when the IP address has been blocked. I find BBC iPlayer easier to connect to than the ITV hub and I think that is something to do with ad-blockers but I’m not particularly techie.

You can get some pretty massive discounts on some of the big VPN’s, like over 80% off on longer contracts so it’s worth shopping around for deals before you take the plunge

Turn off your ad-blocker and it should work. I had the same issue.

Another thumbs up for Express VPN.

Works great for me in being able to access things like BBC iPlayer.

The couple of times I’ve needed to use their support, they’ve been top notch too.

Agree. The paid version isn't cheap but is well worth it, and I wouldn't be without it. I use/have used on a laptop and mobile phone it in Indonesia, China (otherwise no Google, WhatsApp, Facebook and more) and other Asian countries including Japan on brief visits and find it good for all the UK TV hubs and Netflix.

I've never had a problem with ISPs blocking the VPN. It can happen, but I don't think it's common.

Watching the euros live might not be so simple, though as that will depend what sources they're available from and whether paid or not.

Express and probably Nord offer a free trial. Take a look. I don't think you'll be sorry.

I'm sure this topic has come up before but my search function isn't working properly so...

I'm thinking of getting a VPN. Is it worth getting one? Any draw backs? What's a good one to get?

Thanks!

Same location as you and I've had a couple of vpns over the years. If it's iplayer you mainly want it for, I wouldn't bother. They (bbc) are very wise to it all and I gave up on it. Someone mentioned cyberghost earlier, I had that. Doesn't work for bbc.

If you are wanting to watch some British tv, check out the app TVmucho. That works a treat. You only get an hour a day with the free version, but I signed up couple of devices and when we were on the bbc a while back enjoyed the whole game perfectly. You can cast to your tv too. Dunno how they get around the whole iplayer rules thing but right now they do.

Never had a problem in Asia with VPN and iPlayer. It does seem that some of us have had mixed experiences, so best try a free version first.

I have one for IPTV but I have to turn it off to get bbc.co.uk otherwise I'm directed to bbc.com and no iplayer.

With most VPN apps you can whitelist certain apps or websites either so that they do not go via the VPN (e.g. bbc.co.uk and/or the iPlayer app) or so that ONLY they go through the VPN (e.g. just using the VPN for your IPTV app and nothing else) - might be worth looking into.

I've used Nord VPN since it's early days and rate it highly. In this day and age if you travel (we will again eventually) or regularly have to use any public wifi a VPN is an absolute essential imo.
