[Albion] Are the players, playing for Potter?

Confidence is understandably on the floor.
We failed to win games when playing at our best and gradually the team have lost any faith in their ability to score/win.

Whatever happened after the West Brom game, has not been resolved, IMO.
That was our first poor performance of the season and it seems to have derailed us ever since.

I keep referring to the tracker, where we are (i believe) just 1 pt off par.
That is incredible and does point to the fact that we aren't anywhere near as bad as it feels...
but, we need wins badly. 3pts at Leeds and it's a different story, but I can't reeally see it happening.

This.

It’s confidence.

And the only thing that breeds confidence is wins. I think we all accept the City game is a free hit so let’s hope we get something at Leeds. We have done a lot better away under GP so certainly possibly.

I don't think he's lost the dressing room or anything like that but we don't have much belief and that's Potters domain. Things haven't been clicking and something hasn't been right for a while. It could change but I'm worried.

We have too many inconsistent players who are also lacking confidence. They are clearly with the manager though

Maupay and Trossard aside I didn’t see anyone not giving their all this evening.

Maupay not looked right since that incident that saw him dropped out the starting 11

He hasn’t looked right since he gave away that penalty agains Man Utd

No, I see plenty of fight in this side. I just think we have some fragile players who have come here with big price tags and who are making a big step up in class, and those guys seem to play with pressure on their shoulders - Maupay, Ali J, Trossard, MacAllister in particular.

It's no coincidence some of their best performances have been against the top 6 when the pressure is off as we are not expected to win.

They are not going to be the men who will deliver and lead, and this is why we need a striker with big shoulders who can do what Murray did in our first 2 Prem seasons.

They play for wages, which should be performance related.
If we get relegated then the wages structure will change, which may or may not bother them.
I think bringing Percy in will make a difference for the rest of the season, if he is allowed game time.

I suspect they're still with the manager because he's a facilitator not a leader, he's too nice, too non-confrontational and needs to be liked too much.

They should be told to play rather than asked to put in a performance please.
It is all well and good to try and be a people person, but he must be the captain off the pitch.

Unfortunately i think they are . We play the same way all the time , hence every side in the league has a heads up . We went 3-1 down to Wolves and looked like taking a hammering . But the second half we came out totally different , we took the obvious route 1 from KO . Wolves probably thought they would have time because we would play from the back , for once we didn`t and caught them off guard . I was one of many that thought just maybe the lads used their own initiative and said fu lets go for it , if so more please .

ps . Just thought of another great album

Good post. The players you list above I regard as lightweight, not necessarily in physique but in character for the English game. Most of them play like it’s either a 5 a side match or a game of keep ball with no goals.

I think Webster and Dunk are forming a decent partnership but I had expected a lot more from White. Blame the pitch tonight but defenders normally thrive in such conditions. Has White ever clattered anyone?

March is the only left sided player we have that can be relied on (plus dunk when he plays on that side).

Bissouma played well until Webster took him out with a dreadful challenge.

Potter just about passes tonight because of the result. His substitution of March backfired big time when the referee added even more time

Not sure about the players losing faith but our tactics and build up even against a lower league team are slow and predictable. We are still lost in the final third and this must surely be affecting the players. Tactics are to blame and that sits with Potter. That being said we do have 2-3 passengers at the moment.

It's obvious that most players don't believe in the system.

Potter needs to switch things up.
I can't see it's "obvious" . If we played say 442 would that suit our players, certainly wouldn't suit Lamptey as the three gives him cover to go forward, probably the same with March.

What players would "switching things up" (whatever that means)benefit from a change of system.

For me if the players are not playing for the manager they are not playing for the club and they can bugger off and not waste our time.

I think we have a lot of nodding dog players, they'll do what theyre told and don't much care. they're all millionaires, they know if we go down they'll get cuts, or be off. Most of them are contractors, not permanent employees. It's only the likes of March Dunk who are employed 'lifers'.

I think they are playing for the manager.

It's only Trossard who might not be. But he is a surly type, so hard to tell

Really? How do you know him?
