f*** the banks. I am on the verge of getting back 2.5k which HSBC have taken from me in the last 6 years despite never going more than £100 over drawn.

People forget these are businesses and we are customers, and as such, should not be treated like shit. What other business could just take 2.5k off you in six years for doing f*** all.

If they charge you more than the transaction cost them. The charge is unlawful.

all of the £20 - £40.00 are deemd to be unlawful , as they are disproportionate to how much it actually costs the banks to send out a computerised standard letter to the individual. They lose out in no other way as the deeper you go overdrawn the more you pay overdraft interest.

just got my Barclays and lloyds fees back , and i work for Lloyds !!!

Really? I work for Lloyds too but always thought that claiming my charges back would be a duff career move/reflect badly on my credit history?

How would it affect your credit history?

Wouldn't my bank be less likely to offer me loans/cards/mortages etc in the future if I'd done this?

Or could they call in my overdrafts/loans etc to be paid up?

No, doesn't show on a credit check. Not from what I remember anyway.

Yeah I think you're right, but I mean more my banks internal rating system rather than general credit checking.

if you work for Lloyds you write to the Andover Office. They won't have any contact with your branch / department that you work in.

Ideally being bank staff you should (like me) know the penalties , but that still doesn't make them legally justifiable.

Just do it and if you worry about it don't mention to others where you work. Andover are so upto their necks in clearing claims , they won't give toss who you are.

As for you promoting your employer (Lloyds), well maybe they should promote more perks for their staff in the fees area !!

The first letter you get will be the standard "No" but then send the second template letter and the will soon offer you resolution. If you are claiming many hundreds they will make a part offer. Reject that too and threaten them with the 3rd letter template threateninbg court. They will then offer the full amount within about 14 days.

Cheers for the advice. As you say, well aware of charges and so I haven't had that many so may not be worth the effort, we'll see.
