I haven't dug deeply into this story yet but I'm not sure this is correct... "Apple has confirmed the suspicions of many iPhone owners by revealing it does deliberately slow down some models of the iPhone as they age."

...as everything I've read suggests that it's iPhone 6s only that has been affected due to a specific issue, and not "Apple has always slowed down old phone to make people buy new ones" as some seem to be suggesting.

According to Geekbench the iPhone 7 is similarly 'affected'.

All of those Google apps can be uninstalled as far as I am aware. And in any case, manufacturers like Samsung are the worst perpetrators of the practice you describe with a ton of bloat.

Sorry, yes, I saw that too.

What I meant is I've not seen any evidence that suggests that Apple have been intentionally slowing down generations of phones for years.

Why would you want to disable or uninstall Google services from an android phone? Most useful stuff a smartphone (android) does, uses it.

That's the thing. £79 can never be classed as a bargain for something that costs so little. If you are happy to pay it then fine but no-one will convince me it isn't a rip off.

Apple apologise and make offer:

Apple admitted to slowing battery performance, but said the measure aimed to "prolong the life" of the devices.

The company has now said it will replace batteries for less and will issue software in 2018 so customers can monitor their phone's battery health.

In a statement posted on its website, the firm said it would reduce the price of an out-of-warranty battery replacement from $79 to $29 for anyone with an iPhone 6 or later.

It said it was pushing ahead with measures to "address customers' concerns, to recognise their loyalty and to regain the trust of anyone who may have doubted Apple's intentions".

The firm has had eight separate cases in the US filed against it over the matter, and had also been facing additional legal action in Israel and France.

Not sure if the offer is available outside of the US, and not sure how they will define 'needs to be replaced'. Be interesting to see where the lawsuits go.

Could you not buy the battery cheaper on line probaby from China or Hong Kong and if you had to replace it after 1 year it would still be cheaper. Many available at under £10 on e bay. So for your £80 apple bill you could replace 1 a year for 8 years.
