Apple iCloud

I use iTunes Match so all my music is in the cloud.

What it does is...

1. Matches your music against the iTunes DB.
2. For tracks that match, you get the full-on high quality version from Apple (yes, even if 'your' version is some rubbish quality rip or download)
3. For tracks that don't match, your track is uploaded into the cloud for you to access as and when.

£21.99 or something and you have your whole collection with you wherever you go. Massive bargain.

Is this an annual fee?

I too am not techno enough to know about these new gadgets....but I'm thinking of upgrading to a new up to date phone....I don't want iTunes...all I need is a phone/camera...possibly Sat/Nav device and internet connection and a larger screen, prefer Pay as You Go. Looked at some phones today but there are so many of them I cannot decide which phone would be best, not to concerned about price...some advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

Samsung S3 would be perfect then, or the Samsung Nexus is also very good.

Right here, right now
Does it affect your data limit when you download from the Cloud onto your iThing?

Are you limited to playiing pre-loaded stuff if you don't have aconnection (WiFi or otherwise) when you want to play something for the first time?

It will only backup to the Cloud automatically when you're on WiFi. You can, however, instigate a manual backup any time you choose, whether on 3G or Wifi.

Any data transfers will count if you use 3G.

Do you have to pay for icloud

Isn’t it a very low storage capacity to start off with, easily and soon exceeded, when Apple then get you … you effectively have a start paying not trifling monthly sums by continuous card payment to ensure that your phone including photos/videos is backed up on a cloud.

I pay 3 quid a month for 200GB. Apparently I'm only using 60GB of it.

I'm sure 3 quid is "not trifling" for some people, but how many of those people have iPhones?

The issue here is basically the same one Microsoft ran into all those years ago when Windows came with Internet Explorer and didn't offer you any alternative browser (you had to go and find one yourself if you wanted to use anything other than IE). The eventual fix will probably be some kind of splash screen when you're setting up the device that invites you to use iCloud or sign up for cloud storage from Google, Microsoft, Amazon etc. if you prefer.

(That said, it's kinda ridiculous that the free offering only gives you 5GB.)

Did you have the 200GB from the outset with a new contract or new device?
