I am sure there are plenty of experts on this so wondered if you could help as i not that technically minded with this stuff

What does iCloud do exactly and when i go to turn it on it says, "Your iPhone will no longer back up automatically when you sync with iTunes"

Is it a back up for storage just in case i lose or damage my phone so i can put whatever i had on my phone before to put back on a replacement phone and how does not automatically backing up when i sync with iTunes affect my phone/account

Can anyone explain further benefits/disadvantages thanks in advance

It is backup to 'the cloud' rather than your PC or laptop. So if you lost your phone or get a new one, you just sync it to iCloud and it restores as it was. Also backs up photos etc, and streams to other iDevices, such as iPad

iCloud will back-up your iPhone to the cloud. Meaning when you change phone, you can restore instantly over the internet where ever you are.

So would that restore my Music/Apps/Photo's/Phone contacts or just photo's?

Very good q. Certainly contacts/messages/apps. Possibly only itunes brought content? Can someone confirm ? I dont appear to be using enough storage for it to do my own music/movies too.

This. It backs up everything about the phone (not music).

I swapped out my phone at Apple 2 weeks ago and simply restored my iCloud backup and the brand new phone was exactly the same as my old phone on every way, even down to what apps I had open at the time of backup and logged in status on websites.

Use it - it may save you one day.

Look at iTunes Match if you want to backup your music library and have your entire collection anywhere. This is a great service as Match will also allow you upgrade all your poor quality MP3's with the best quality from the iTunes library. This applies to whether your music is purchased through iTunes, elsewhere or ripped CD's.

What about tracks that aren't on iTunes?

I use iTunes Match so all my music is in the cloud.

What it does is...

1. Matches your music against the iTunes DB.
2. For tracks that match, you get the full-on high quality version from Apple (yes, even if 'your' version is some rubbish quality rip or download)
3. For tracks that don't match, your track is uploaded into the cloud for you to access as and when.

£21.99 or something and you have your whole collection with you wherever you go. Massive bargain.

Is there a space limit on number of music files?

Still not sure about the auto sync message I get when I go to turn iCloud on. Which I have not done yet as I don't know what it does if I go to plug my iPhone into my main computer

It will be fine - just turn it on. Click 'Backup Now' when you turn it on if you want to be extra-safe. Otherwise it wil do it automatically without you having to bother.

You might want to turn on iTunes Wi-Fi Sync too, then you'll not need to ever connect it to your computer.

Okay thanks. As long as I do not lose anything doing it or lose any function if I do plug into my computer. Thank you for advice

I too am not techno enough to know about these new gadgets....but I'm thinking of upgrading to a new up to date phone....I don't want iTunes...all I need is a phone/camera...possibly Sat/Nav device and internet connection and a larger screen, prefer Pay as You Go. Looked at some phones today but there are so many of them I cannot decide which phone would be best, not to concerned about price...some advice would be appreciated. Thank you.
