Were they ever live?

Sorry, they bored me to death, in the Phil Collins league of music I'm afraid.

Never saw them live and wasn't a great fan of their albums but Alchemy is one of the best live albums made. The live version of Sultans of Swing is superb and showed they could make good music. Just a shame they disappeared up their own arseholes with Brothers In Arms and turned into a very bland band.

a couple of times...Brighton Cente and hammersmith

decent enough concerts...typical of the big groups at the time.

Yes, and more recently Mark Knopfler playing Dire Stuff when touring with Emmylou Harris.
I have to say that they were decent in their time, but a bit passe now. I acquired a copy of the 2lp live recently and just played the other day. Hardly essential even as background music, and after a minute of two my brain switched them off even though the record was still playing.

Yes also saw them outdoors at Woburn Abbey. Got there really early to get front row places and the found that they'd placed a massive fenced-off seated area in front of us so we were way back. But Straits were great and it was a fantastic setting. Got the recording on cassette (remember?) somewhere as Beeb Radio did a live session.

About time they did another final comeback concert like everyone else does!

Yes - it was at Wembley Arena on the Monday after Live Aid. Whilst not exactly "kick ass" they were far a far livelier act than I had expected and I enjoyed the show.

Dave Edmunds, Hank Marvin and Paul Brady (Irish singer who writes loads of stuff for other people) guested with them.

Saw them live at Brighton Centre in the early days, could see that live performing in front of big crowds not yet perfected but still good value, live concerts should be like scratchy vinyl slightly mistimed to perfection.:lolol:

Saw them not long after the release of Sultan's of Swing at the Dome. Excellent in their day but they never really moved on and became known and vilified as a Yuppy band. Seriously uncool these days I think, I still like their music in small doses and as said above Alchemy is one of the great live albums.

I went to The Dome gig too, they were decent and well received at the time. I can't imagine them putting on a 'bad' show, but neither can I imagine a particularly amazing one either. The material doesn't 'rock' enough really, 'Lady Writer' is about their best tune in that department, in my opinion.
