[Misc] Anyone on NSC ever had a Toyota MR2. What do / did you think of it

I've not decided on anything yet. It's something I've never had to think about and it's a much harder decision than I thought it would be.
Your opinion has been taken on board though, as have others, I need all the advice I can get as I've never done this before.

Great decision to have though and I would imagine probably hard earned, so enjoy it

Alfas are so much better now but they are Italian which meant that what they look like was far more important than actually working properly.
Improved greatly but in Italy it is all about style.

They have nearly always had great engines ( 105 twin cams from the 60's and 70's are not as good as the lotus though ) great gearboxes, suspension and drivability. Its was just the bits drivers touched and sat on, as well as the dissolving factor that let them down . . . A wannabe ferrari for Fiat money

We had the same, fast Fords which were equally frail rusty and unreliable when neglected. People are quick to forget how poorly protected all cars were until the 90's really.

The MIdget is as fun to drive as any of them, cetainly drives a lot better than the Aston.

Jag XJ's were solid. I had a few 1970's Silver Shadows in my possession. I used to slam the doors in the showroom and then run a hoover under them straight after to gobble all all the rust flakes. I kid you not!

I agree on the Alfas btw. Engines never used to fail, but the gearbox synchros were made of glass and the body panels were as hardy as wet shit roll.

I think I just need to accept the fact that I missed out on a lot of fun times in sporty cars and now the humdrum mediocrity of middle aged life means I have to drive a beige Volvo estate.

Sadly it comes to all of us eventually, except in my case for beige Volvo estate, read equally boringly beige, Ford C-Max.

Cameras, and sensors, are distorted and overly cautious. Modern parking spaces are smaller than the cars . . . I saw some young guy in a Merc ealrier, scared to squeeze through a gap between an oncoming car and a parked car . . .he was only in an A class . . . Not sure if it was beeping at him, but there was a foot either side!

Had a mk2. Quick but deadly. Would swap ends at 30mph in the damp.

I've never driven one but over the years I have attended several incidents where MR2's have done excactly that, and according to the driver with little or no warning. The worst was an incident where a an MR2 spun off a wet road following a sudden heavy shower, mounted the pavement and struck a guy out jogging, killing him. A few seconds difference either way and the car would simply have hit a fence. Seize the day.

Never fancied a classic 'sports car' I was of the hot hatch generation (had two 205GTi's) plus always had a fast sports motorbike.

BTW just got my CBR600 MOT'd and started talking to the Garage owner about classic 2-stoke sports bikes.

I wish I had kept my Yamaha RD400F and 350LC, apparently I would be sitting on well over £10,000.

Silly money but expect most got wrapped around trees or lampposts back in the day so not many left.

Still nothing like a stroker hitting the power band and raising the front wheel at 60MPH...

Modern Alfas are roughly as reliable as any other car - i.e. really reliable.

It was mines as well, half shared with my Dad . . . . still have mk1's but the MK2 1600E is a better car to live with. miss my old MK1 Crapi as well, 1600GT was a lovely car for cruising around.
