When I was at University, my best mate, who was a Notts County fan, applied for the vacant Man City manager's job. In his letter he explained that he was actually a Notts County fan, and should City ever play Notts County at Maine Road he would feel obliged to leave the dug out and stand in the Away end.

He got a very nice handwritten letter back from the Man City chairman, thanking him for his interest, but stating that he had been unsuccessful. He also got a pair of tickets for City's next game, plus a slip that said "If you don't want these, give them to Derek Pavis (then Notts County Chairman) with this slip, tell him to let you in and he can send the bill to me. Yours, in sport."

I think that is an outstanding story. I hope it is true.

Stockport find themselves in the same position as Lincoln with only 3 contracted players on the books. Basically until they move away from Edgeley Park they'll never get back in to L2 as all the gate revenue goes to Sale along with a cut from any outgoing transfer deals.
