Anyone know of any reputable pet shops in Brighton/Sussex that sell KITTENS.

I am after one after my cat sadly died after 16 years.

The only pet shops I can think of only sell dog accessories or crappy goldfish. The RSPCA didn’t have any available, and they put you through some crappy interview process much like on The Apprentice, including home visits etc…

Not sure how dodgy it will be going through the Friday Ad, gumtree etc

Thank you please x

Oh and as it's Friday

I'd find a reputable breeder or get one from a rescue if I'm honest. Nothing wrong with a home visit as they are just making sure that you are going to be a suitable owner for the animal.

I know they aren't kittens but an animal sanctuary that I volunteer at is overflowing with cats and they need homes! - Animals Needing Re-homing

I wouldn't get one from a pet shop personally. My two cats came from Worthing Cat Rescue, and they (WCR) were very good - they had about 26 to choose from at the time I went, although there were no actual kittens - my two were about 9 months old at the time. Other than that I would go to a breader or ask around friends, as there are often people who have some from a litter of kittens.

I can't help, but sorry to hear about your cat. My two cats died within about a month of each other when they were 15 and I was devastated. Would love to replace them, but a one bed flat puts paid to that.

Sorry for your loss Brett, but I'd echo Neil's sentiment and seek out rescue shelters and sanctuaries. My two cats are both rescue cats and I wouldn't swap them for the world. Sadly there are too many rejected cats and dogs in need of a home.

Ditto. You have to wonder what sort of low-life people owned the animals originally to abandon them. Not sure of the full story of my two, I was told they were born under a garden shed, but as they were 9 months when I got them, I don't know what happened in the intervening timr. They were well house trained, though and that didn't happen in a couple of weeks at the rescue place.

Pet shop maybe a bad idea by the sounds of things. We kind of want one over the weekend, definatley before Christmas. The RSPCA is too long a process, and they treat you like you are thick, despite saying we know what we are doing, we have had cats for over 25 years.

Growing up my parents owned a Dog Boarding kennels and cattery in Shoreham, but WCR still checked me out. It was simple process though, the woman came round to talk to me and check my house - was very easy, then she gave me the number of the woman who looked after the cats, and I arranged a visit, chose my two and picked them up the next day. They just wanted to check they were going to a good home, and I think she knew quickly that I knew what I was doing, so it was simple really. I was impressed for a small charity organisation.

It would be slightly less cruel to buy (1) a cute cuddly toy to stroke and (2) an air rifle so you can go round destroying wild life in neighbouring gardens.

If you would like to be more sophisticated you can buy a small spade to bury your poo just under the surface of flower beds in the area and a small abrasive device to scratch other people's warm car bonnets.

Rescue cat is the way to go innit?

But what's the inspection all about?? have they seen the state of some of the places where mad old women keep 27 cats?

Female cats tend to get horny in later winter/spring months, it's nature's way of making sure that their kittens have the best chance of survival by being born in spring/summer. You won't get any kittens at this time of year and will probably have to wait until May.

Definitely look at your local cat shelter, the best cat I've ever owned was from the cat's protection league shelter. There is no interview process, they just pay a single home visit to check that you don't live in a crack den (or already have 20 other cats).

Mate you gotta understand that although you are probably very good cat owners that anyone can waltz into the RSPCA and say the right things - the rescues wouldn't be doing their job if they let just anyone walk in, say the right things and walk off with a cat. Home visits aren't painful at all, they'll just pop round, spot that you're going to be an excellent home then you can pick your cat up!

PLUS most animals from rescues are neutured, wormed and have had a full vet check.

I think maybe it was because the two women they had at the desk were particularly rude and condescending that wound us up. They werent really that helpful and said we may not get a home visit for over a week.

I will check out the other sanctuaries and shelters
