Personally, I would'nt say no if I was offered to join in on a hunt, the reason being is that I'd like a common frame of reference from both parties before making an opinion. I'm not saying I'd enjoy it, I probably wouldn't but it is hard to vote against something when you are ignorant on the other side of the arguement.

Too many townies who know feck all about the country pass judgement as if it was fact. Personally don't know enough about it to feel as strongly as everyone else seems to.

I know three people who hunt and none of them can be described as upper class or even rich. They do it for the same reason as I play football at Pitch Invasion, its a social thing, you do something and get to meet others whilst enjoying doing what you do. All three people (none of whom know each other) have never seen a fox killed, the enjoyment lies more in the picking up of a scent and riding around the countryside flying over hedges and gates on horses than it does in catching and ripping them up.

Regarding the law, it is unenforeable, as unless the police are themselves on the hunt there is actually no way of knowing whether the hunt is law abiding or not.

Before anybody asks I'm on the fence on this issue.

The interesting thing about this issue is that the hunting fraternity have said that they will defy the ban and break the law. No doubt the Daily Nazi/Nazi on Sunday and Torygraphs will support them. (As, no doubt, will the society of fuckwitted downsmen, Falmer villagers and Norman effing Baker).

Make this a group of football fans who defiantly stand at a game when, technically, we should all be sitting down and in these same papers' eyes we're f***ing hooligans.

The law is there whether they like it or not, whether it's unworkable or not. They hunt then they're breaking the law. If they break the law they should expect the same level of punishment they'd want to see handed out to football 'thugs' who break the law. Personally, I'd love to see some of these gobshite rich bitches thrown into jail amongst the extras in Bad Girls.

My family shall be supporting a hunt on Friday - the day the "law" comes into force.

Personally I dont give a f**k about a fox being ripped to pieces by a pack of dogs. The law is spiteful, illogical and vindictive and therefore deserves to be ignored. As has been said many times before, it has more to do with social pejudice than substance. The real problem though is that it interferes with an established practice that harms no-one and is another example of how our liberties are denied us under the pretense of social betterment.

So, I guess that I don't agree with quite a few on here.

Although in the past hunting has been abhorrent it has had one pleasing benefit.
Every year a few rich, inbred right wing facist bastards are either killed or injured for life through accidents chasing the defenseless fox.
Lord Sam Vestey's younger brother being one of them. He may be from one of the richest famillies in the country, (mainly from tax evasion) but he broke his back hunting.
Could be a way to finish off Charles and Camilla yet , hunting in France.

Why so picky all of a sudden,..... most of you 'social and political' commentators are quite happy to pass judgement on ay number of issues you know nothing about, namely the situation in Iraq.... where you all make so-called well informed anti-US judgements without knowing what life was actually like for those poor souls under Saddam, and even what life is like for them now, better or worse..........

Well I hope they witness a shit load of law breakers getting arrested.

It is the law though whether you and your family's hunting friends like it or not. Break the law-get arrested. Break it again-go to jail. Come out, break the law again-go to jail for longer.

MYOB - Mrs Starry is pro hunt, and the children will be riding to hounds on Saturday. And she's all Irish also.

We had the local superintendant police officer come to a hunt dinner earlier this week and he basically said that unless the police can prove there was intent to hunt a fox there is very little they can actually do. People can ride their horses where they want, people can ride to hounds if they want. It's not illegal to meet and chase hounds accross the countryside. One thing the superintendant suggested was for one foot follower to carry a rifle so if there is fox it can be shot on sight and no law broken.

He also said that there will be no more police officers on duty at the HH than usual simply because there is not the manpower.

I'm not sure she wanted me to know that...

So they'll basically be doing pretty much what they used to do but without ripping the foxes to shreds with hounds.

Right

Not quite so extremely barbaric, but still nasty.

That'll teach her to leave the pc logged in like this.

In all serious, I doubt she'd be too fussed. She is scary enough to fight her corner!

So, they will still be chasing an innocent animal, scaring the shit out of it before killing it for no other reason other than that they enjoy.

How very f***ing pleasant.

Hunting is a disgusting 'sport' and I do not see how anyone can defend it.

Hunting foxes with hounds is illegal but hunting foxes to shoot them isn't. Just as many foxes are going to be killed but in a different way (probably only wounding the fox and leaving it to die of starvation or bleeding to death)

I would like to know where all the police are going to come from to arrest these hunters?
Are they going to leave the motorists alone for a change or will they be so busy looking out for hunters that we can all get burgled more often.

Yes this post is tongue in cheek and I am a fence sitter when it comes to hunting.

Nanny state gone mad - shame on Blair.

Keep hunting as far as I am concerned, just another diversion for the police so that serial killers carry on and on undetected.
