...let's have a winter break and fly the squad half way around the world for training.
It seems a long way away, but it's really not that far - the flight there is only around 7 hours.

It's often shorter - I've done 6 and a half with a decent tailwind.

A couple of films, a couple of meals, a quick nap and you're there. Not exactly a hardship for the lads in business class too.

I now hate to say it but I've been there, albeit about 15 years ago so climate change wasn't quite so obvious (I keep telling myself that). This ski dome in the f***ing dessert nicely sums up the 'f*** the rest of the planet' mentality of the ruling Arabs.
I agree with you.

One day, very soon, we'll look back on people taking trips by plane "to get some winter sun" and wonder what the f*** were they thinking.

Or warm weather training helps muscle strains or prevents muscle strains?
Maybe a sports injury specialist could enlighten us?
Until you then go home and try and turn out in a match where it's 35c colder than where you've just been.

If it was about muscle strains they would play in the heated tent they've got

I was in Dubai for a long weekend about 20 years ago. Not my choice of destination as it was a work jolly (reward for the high achievers since you didn't ask :)).
I would not go back.

I found it to be crammed to the rafters with c***s, soulless, with marble and gold (brass?) everywhere.

It's all about brands, bling and excess. My idea of hell, but not so for the average footballer.

I wonder if they serve glacier ice at the ski dome?

They'll likely be in the Jebel Ali Resort then, pretty sure that's where they stayed last time round.

Might pop down there at the weekend for a bit of star spotting! :ROFLMAO:

Interesting if they ARE staying there... there doesn't seem to be any training facilities, only a golf course and some tennis courts...

do you think they go somewhere ese to train?

I don't get it - all EPL clubs complain about the schedule and the effect on players. I know, let's have a winter break and fly the squad half way around the world for training. And that ignores the cost and emissions in doing so. As has already been posted - how does warm weather training help the squad when we're in the coldest season here ?
Spot on, Westdene 👍

If only they'd put N hectares of solar panels across a small portion of desert rather than drilling every last litre of oil out of the ground...and we need to quickly get to the point where we don't need to buy oil from anyone (or drill it ourselves).

And... relevant to nothing (except the superficiality of bling maybe) the Burj Khalifa is rumoured not to be connected directly to a sewage system...the poop trucks line up daily to remove contributions.
I've tried hard to find definitive evidence but just can't get to the bottom of it 😬.

Will be interesting to find out which U-21s have made the trip: Nilsson? Samuels? Peupion? BBB? Duffus? Kavanagh?

None of them in the line up tonight so BBB, Duffus, Kavanagh and Peupion at least look very likely to be at winter training camp don’t they.

Surely the budget stretches further than this crappy looking hotel !!
