As Poojah, Mustafa, sheebo and others have said, finding the will and impetus within yourself to do this will be invaluable. You can do it mate.

Having a clean apartment will be great, but more importantly, you'll feel better.

Seeing as you've already started this as a NSC thread, why not make tackling the job part of it too? Might even end up in NSC Gold at this rate.

Liveblog it here. Share some 'before' pictures to start with; then go and get the stuff you need (gloves to help with yr ripping phobia, black binbags, sprays, cloths etc); keep us updated on your efforts; and finish with some 'after' shots.

It might even make it a bit more 'fun' and motivating to have us cheering you on – with the odd bit of joshing and sarcastic humour thrown in too, of course.

We might be a cynical and even harsh bunch at times, but we can also be there for each other when needed.

And if you do tackle the fridge and clear all 200 boxes, I'll personally donate 5p per pizza box to the REMF as an extra incentive. So you'll even have raised a tenner for charity if you do the lot. Are we on?

Watched the whole thing (well, the Trebus parts)... that poor lovely man. I love him and fear him.

Part of my decision to finally get on with the cleaning is because someone broke into (well... I didnt lock because **** knows where my key was - found it today though) my apartment the other day when I was at the store and took my TV. Kid in the stairwell said it was four Somalians who did it but I'm sure its the kid and his criminal brothers, but **** can I do... I dont live here legally. Its not my apartment.

While sitting in my couch, rolling my last weed to cope with it, I had mainly two feelings: very happy they didnt take the probably very expensive sound system in here, but also the odd feeling that I was embarrased that the thieves had seen the state of my apartment. Both of these feelings were more intense than any anger or whatever.

Sort of decided to treat it as a wake-up call, which I've had quite a few of over the years, hopefully I'll remain wake this time around.

Sorry if it's getting away from the main point of the thread, but WTF? Who's apartment IS it? Do they know you are living there? Do they know that their apartment is in such a state?

Good luck getting the pizza boxes sorted but, to be honest, they sound like the tip of the iceberg!

Have you considered getting a goat? They eat just about anything and once it has chewed its way through the 200 boxes, you can eat it and eventually you will, in effect, be flushing the boxes down the toilet.

I'm thinking I'd rather have 200 cardboard boxes than 200 cardboard boxes' worth of goat poo on the floor.

Do we know what Swansman does for a living? If he doesn’t have a job where is the money to buy dope and a pizza every other day coming from?

And as Greg Bobkin says who’s apartment is this that the OP lives in? Are they aware it is almost a squat now? Apartment not cleaned for a year? Wow!

I am finding this thread quite surreal, hope it has a happy ending!

The 200 pizza boxes are just a small part of the problem aren’t they?

Fascinating stuff though

Would have been fun, dont own a camera (damn miss having one though) or smartphone.

Its my friends apartment, He doesnt own it though, it is leasehold (?) or whatever its called, so its not as bad as it sounds.

He pretty much knows I'm a dirty man (quite dirty himself) but perhaps not the full extent. Either way he is never going to live here again, he regularly preferred to sleep in his car than being in this neighborhood. I havent told him about his TV yet though, saving that talk for a good, strong day...

Not going to be a bring problem though, he is generally quite understanding. When I lost the last key to the apartment in September and had to find a shady locksmith to open up the apartment and change the lock, my friend didnt think it was a big problem.

Of course I will (as usual when I move...) pay him for any damage done to the apartment/his things and any pay the housing company demand from him (like reinstalling the old lock piston) etc.

No shit. I've always had this issue though and there's no obvious "how the fck do I change my behaviour when it comes to cleaning" guide.

Got no pictures of my current apartment but some of my earlier...

Its 5x worse now though..

So yeah. Its an issue in my life, though I basically just laugh at the tragicomic of it. NOT TODAY THOUGH.

I'm becoming a better human today.

I really need some quick fix to deal with these ****ing pizza boxes though..

compost them!

What's Gothenburg like? Looks very nice. Worth a visit?

I like it.

I moved in 2016 when people started doing heroin at the socialist/anarchist student housing where I spent most of time the last seven or eight years in Lund.

Initially I moved to Kungälv, a small town 20 minutes from Gothenburg, because I missed living and studying at a folkhögskola (a type of school only existing in the Nordic countries). I loved the school and really got positively surprised the times we went into Gothenburg, and continued to study there until just a month ago. After two years they told me "yes, you can study here but you cant live here" since they discovered I was smoking inside my room, and then I got a random chance to move to Gothenburg.

I had some prejudiced thoughts about big cities but quickly found that this is a very nice place, very nice working class people and a fantastic music scene, plus the nature is great and it is relatively cheap. A beer costs about £2 in the pubs which is a robbery compared to most of Sweden.

If you are going to Sweden some time, I would definitely recommend it above the other big cities (Stockholm is quite beautiful but very sterile and hectic and Malmö is a very weird city compared to every place I've ever been, and mostly in a bad way).

I've been to Stockholm, many years ago so don't remember too much. had a great time though but wasn't blown away. Most people speak English to a better standard than we do though - without all the slang and laziness, etc - I remember thinking that!

Sounds an interesting and chilled place with a good musical vibe. Worth looking into!
2 quid a pint too... That's about a third of the price of a pint in Brighton, must be about a fifth of an average pint in Sweden!?

I went to Norway cycling for 2 weeks, in the mid 80's, still don't know a word of any Scandinavian language, they all put us to shame linguistically. I have a few friends in Denmark, they speak English and French better than we do. Something to do with education apparently. Who Knew

Really? Would have thought a pint in the UK would cost £2-3. In most cities in Sweden the price is around £5-6 for a beer.

What about hard liquor? Here you get a 4 cl shot of vodka for £9-10 in most places and I'm convinced it cant be more expensive anywhere else in the world.

Dont know if its really that much about education though. We start reading English in second grade (when we are 7-8) and then another language - Spanish, French or German - in sixth grade.

I remember thinking that the English teaching was really poor though, too much memorising and too much Shakespeare. I also hated that our English teacher was harrassing me because I refused to talk with British accent despite my furious attempts to explain that it made no sense with British accent if you werent from Britain. I threw a brick through the classroom window and she stopped nagging and I still hold on to my Swenglish.

I only really started enjoying it when our music teacher decided that we should set up a version of "Cats". Learning stuff is much funnier when you get to be Mr. Mistoffelees.

But I think the main reason people in Scandinavia speak decent English is because we are small countries yet very developed and consume a lot more culture than we produce, while there is really no competing second language unlike in most countries (i.e. Dutch are often equally good in German as in English). We also dont dub shit like most countries, except for kid shows that is.

These factors are probably more important than the education tbf.

Very happy about it though, English is just a great language, a lot more flavours to it than Swedish. Some moods and "tones" are just really difficult to express in Swedish.

You're looking at between about £4.50 at the cheaper end up to £6 for a pint here. But its cheaper depending on where you are in the country. You won't find a pint anywhere for £2 though!

Around 5/6 quid for a similar sized shot of liquor

I've spent quite a bit of time on business in Scandinavia. I've been to Stockholm, but also smaller towns like Kalmar and Linkoping. Quite a lot of time in Denmark too; again major cities like Copenhagen but more so in Jutland - Billund, Herning, Vejle, Aarhus. My impression has always been, wow, how happy, wealthy and chilled out everybody looks. The way of life seems so different to here in the UK.

Maybe what I've seen is a little false. I don't know.

Swansman, I know absolutely nothing about you, what you do, how old you are, anything really. But there's something about your posts that reminds me of a younger version of me, and I know how troubled I was. You're posting on here with better English than many native English speaking people I encounter on a daily basis - you're clearly an intelligent person. The world can be an absolute cünt. Maybe you didn't get the breaks. I don't know, but I'm 100% certain than you can do better than you have been doing and are right now.

I've been to the absolute depths of despair, and back. And then back again. Ad infinitum. It's not as simple as some binary concept of rags to riches - in reality life is far more complicated and nuanced. Anyway, as has become the norm in recent months I'd love the opportunity to have a good chat with you and share experiences over some popular form of videoconferencing platform (video not necessary). If you fancy it, drop me a PM. If not, just ignore this message with no offence taken and all the best wishes in the world!
