I finally had a delivery which included a bag of rice today! Not been able to get any for 4 weeks.

Now what recipes do you recommend? It’s long grain btw.

Well, there weren’t until 10 million people were suddenly not allowed to leave their homes

What is my punishment, do you reckon? I have already had to resign from something for driving 16 miles to drop the shopping off. Now I need a forfeit for shopping for both of our parents for the first time ever. I am a bad man.

Every time I have been to a shop since this started, they have had shed loads of microwaveable rice packets. Worth adding as a backup.

Thanks for the suggestion. Fortunately we are back up to full stock on rice now.

Challenge with getting to supermarkets is that as we are both high risk and so have been wholly reliant on deliveries as we are not free to safety saunter down the isles filling our trolly with what ever takes our fancy - oh those distant but simples pleasures of days gone bye!

What is so odd with the delivery system is that at midnight the order is apparently complete and all items are available but circa 4am (whilst I am snoring) an email arrives to say that some items are no longer available. This makes it complicated to get all ingredients for a specific recipe. Examples - spinach (twice so far), green peppers (not red?) and even milk last week! There have been quite a few other items too.

Keeps life full of surprised but not been able to make the wife’s beloved sag paneer for weeks.....:annoyed:

Stay safe everyone xx

I had to pop to my local Tesco Express last night and from a quick glance, I did think it was the first time it looked normal-ish as I noted there was pasta, rice, eggs, tinned tomatoes and bog roll on the shelves.

Eggs, particularly, seem to have been quite hard to come by still.

Like you we are dependent on deliveries and am sometimes dumbfounded by the substitutions made.

Yesterday, 2 x cucumber, got 2 lettuce, despite having 3 lots of lettuce already in my order. Punnet of cress for my egg rolls, got bag of watercress instead! Well it's got cress in the name... And the topper 4 x Tiramisu, got 8 strawberry yogurts!!!

And yet at the same time they failed to send me any bread or bread rolls - maybe the picker had got fed up of throwing on random items by the time they got to the bread aisle.

It’s odd as chickens are still laying! We are blessed as there is a free range farm about a mile down the road so eggs have not been a problem for us.

I know - but it must be automated and not decided by human logic. We quickly learnt to deselect substitutions. Wonder what they would substitute condoms for - rubber gloves and a pair of scissors? 😂

You need to get to Spring Gardens Nursery just north of the Washington roundabout on the A24. Every time I go in there they have stacks of eggs - as many as you want (1 to a tray of 30) - even when this first started they were well stocked

As there is from us, and they have an outdoor egg vending machine - called Boris humorously enough - but every time I've happened to walk by there with the dog the machine has been empty of eggs. It also has honey and apple juice, both of which were available. Less useful for cake baking however!

Bit risky carrying eggs in one hand and a dog’s lead with the other ...... or do you let the dog/s carry them home. My shepherds can be soft mouthed - when it suites them!

funniest ever sub from Asda - ordered Lemon Merengue Pie, they sent a jar of lemon curd ! a sort of diy approach there. The worst sub they are doing at the moment is frozens meals - i ordered fish pie they sent spaghetti pasta bake, ie not even fish! and most insane one ever - i ordered fabric softener and they sent DRAIN CLEANER. now, if i was old and short sighted i could imagine someone using that in their wash and destroying all their clothes. Might have given the mashing machine a good clean though!

Ha! At least you got 8 (eight) strawberry yoghurts :) This morning it looks like I've got pepper sauce coming for parsley sauce. I don't mind, I'm happy to make my own parsley sauce but I can't think of a link between parsley and peppers sauce other than they begin with p and end in sauce, anyone?

I got a click & collect from Sainsburys just before Easter. I had the following substituted out;

1x box of 5 Creme Eggs
1x pack of penne pasta
1x Carex handwash refill

All three of these were replaced by Cadbury Creme Egg easter eggs (full size ones). I get the first one, but I'm not totally sure about the other two. I mean I suppose "Carex" and "Cadbury" are similarly named...

It's a deconstructed lemon meringue pie, you pay a fortune for that in trendy restaurants.

I thought this might restart.

Last time, it was also paracetamol, home baking stuff, eggs, tinned foods, porridge.

Once it gets going, the hoarding has a momentum of its own.

Appreciate the checklist. Just popping out to the shops.
