Got a Desire last week and really love it, a few small problems with it, Android doesn't support Flash yet but Android v2.2 is coming soon and that will!
I did find that wi-fi drains the battery quite a lot, so best to turn it off if not using it!

Quite ironic, the same thing has happened to me. Ordered it with dial-a-phone, they delayed my order, so I can cancelled with them over the phone - they sent me the phone anyway.
And I'm getting one from Vodafone tomorrow...

To answer a question from yesterday - mines over 24 months with vodafone. Never had a contract that long before but took the punt anyway.
Not been too much so far that has defeated me (i.e. had to refer to the instructions)on it after 24 hours of use

Got mine this morning. Feels and looks real quality. Is much better than an Iphone IMO
Writing this message on my Desire now. Great piece of kit! There is an app you can install called app killer which let's you stop apps that are running on the phone. I've stopped a lot of things running so the battery lasts longer.
You get the same problem with iphones.
