My computer frequently shuts down and the screen goes black. Often when I turn it back on it then thurns itself on just as it gets past the windows page...

Then when it does a scancheck I get this message or similar ones...

Looks like your Firefox is f***ed. Try loading up in safe mode and uninstalliing it.

Eh, no

The machine is crashing while Firefox is running, hence the Firefox -profile- gets f***ed

The machine crashing is unconnected to Firefox, the error messages are caused by the machine crashing

Its probably a case of the hard disk being damaged. What verison of Windows are you using? Some have a hard disk integrity scanner that can be left overnight (it takes HOURS) to search for physical damage on the disk itself.

Could try and repair the installation. Wont delete any of your files, just reinstall all of the Windows files in case some of them have corrupted.

True, theres a slight chance his disk drivers are corrupt, or he's run Windows Update and its installed bad ones

I've got the latest windows, only had the computer about 18 months.... How would I repair the installation? If not what would you suggest?

That'll never happen. You have to press "submit reply" to post it. As you're halfway through something and the 'puter switches off, you'll never have time to submit it. Don't be such a fu

Go to My Computer, right click on the C drive, go to Properties, go to Tools, click Check Now under Error-checking, check both check boxes, click Start.

And wait. And wait, and wait.... it'll take a few hours.

This will check for physical disk damage. This is the most likely cause of the crash.
