There are quite a few myths about income tax. The highest top rate was just over 99%, during the war. It remained c90% between the end of the war and the early 70s, when the differential between earned and unearned income was introduced. I'd also add my gripe isn't with those who actually avoid tax, it's the system. The real debate right now shouldn't be 'should Cameron resign?' (though there are clear conflicts of interest appearing) it should be 'how do we tackle tax avoidance'- I'm sure there is no easy answer but it is an issue we desperately need to tackle.

Very valid point. Cameron is silly for even thinking that any connection with an offshore investment would be acceptable to the great British public, but he does not appear to have broken any laws and frankly there are thousands of more worthy causes to protest about.

Better rates of interest on investments is one. To safeguard your money in a more stable currency is another. There will be plenty more.

Another sad thread. Absolute apathy from 90% of the posters. People who should be representing is are literally taking with one hand while contributing nothing with the other. Cameron went to the EU to defend tax havens, yet we're all in this together. Why is it too much to ask to have a government who want to improve the country for all it's citizens?

Well the event promoter created it yesterday, I was like the third to commit to it or something stupid like that. I was working so hard to get the message out there on social media. There's a protest in Paris that has 6k protesters, next week the peoples assembly I'm London has 3k currently signed up. I think 5k is incredible
Don't forget Iceland had 10% of its electorate aswell

Unless for example you pay a cleaner and CEO of bank the same you will always have those that have and those that don't. In general we lucky to live in fair society. Never please everyone. I am not happy my neigbour receives over £7000 in benefit when well enough to at least clean streets. Its not going to happen but if someone gave me £100,000 and account told me if I put it abroad he could turn it into £120,000 if it was legal I am sorry I would do it. Until governments make it illegal it will always happen.
You will be amazed how generous we are with benefits health service etc then so many European countries.

I'm personally delighted that the prime minister, who ever it may be, went to the best school in the country because he or she should then have had the best education the country can offer.

I also couldn't care less if he has a lot more money than me, that's just a fact of life.

I take it those of you who are heading to London today to protest will also be protesting outside Facebook, Google, Starbucks, TopShop etc etc whilst organising another protest outside Hyde Park on the 9th of July when Take That play?? No didn't think so.

I will be voting out, I have no idea who else will be? I agree with a lot of this thread that its not just Cameron its the whole system that needs to change and I hope this will be a movement for change. I have no idea why there should be off shore tax havens under British control like the British Virgin Islands unless they are for tax evasion. If we are all this together lets sort this sh1t out

I can't believe there are still people on here defending Cameron. What he has done is steal from our country. He and his loopholes he has created means YOU pay more tax because the elite aren't paying their fair share.

It is blatant theft but you are probably more worried about an Eastern European sending their £50 child allowance back home rather than tackling the real thieves .

Will the protesters be stopping off at all the embassies of countries where the leaders have actually avoided paying any tax or done something illegal .. you know real corruption?

And take in all the coffee chains and other businesses as well which actively avoid paying it as well

Agreed. There are many here who want to go back to politics of envy. Based on what has come out to date there is nothing here but envy
