Anyone ever had a tendon or ligament replaced?

I went to see a specialist this morning and this was spoken about and considering doing it on my arm as i've had numerous injections and physio on it and now i'm getting pissed off with the pain. been on going for ages and was wondering if anyone has had this done or knew of anyone that's had it done and if they have had any complications or trouble with it?

Surgeon said there was only a 75% success rate of it working properly but i know 25% is not a lot but dont really want to lose any feeling or have anymore trouble with it.

i had my anterior cruciate replaced in 95 and it was horrific!! had 6 operations since to correct.still have a numb knee

Could be hit and miss then? it sounds very painful but surely in the long run it has to fix it for good and would never have to go through this again?

Can i ask if you had it done on the NHS or private and if it was private what costs were incurred?

So did I , playing cricket at Lindfield. Bloke on the boundry heard it, ran on and made sure noone took my pads off. His wife was a racehorse trainer at Plumpton way and he recognised the sound.

I had my Anterior Cruciate Ligament replaced in 2000, had quite a few operations since as the cartilage is f*cked (principally because the bloody NHS had a year waiting list following my injury so more damage was done when my knee kept giving wat) and it still locks every now and then for about 3 hours.

What are they going to replace the tendon with??

I havent got a clue what they would replace it with, it was mentioned this morning about me having it removed and replaced. i havent gone to much into detail with the surgeon about what they would use but will do next month. although i did do some research on the interweb and apparently i can have a dead persons one. if true or not i dont know

Anterior Cruciate Ligament reconstruction. In my left knee, my ACL is now what was a piece of my hamstring. Stitched together a few times and bolted into place.

Knee was very sore this morning - no idea why.

I've not had any ligaments replaced but did spend 17 weeks in plaster after my scapholunate ligament was torn apart and had to be sewn together again. Not an experience I'd readily opt for again since it was painful and halfway through the pins that hold things together got infected. I wouldn't put too much trust in the repair even now, 3 years later but if you are a fit young person with nice elasticky ligaments, you might care to take the risk.

How bad is the tear? There are now a lot of ultra sound / heat therapy treatments available which claim some success for minor tears without the need for surgery. I know a lot of these are probably spurious but sometimes it’s a question of what have you got to lose as surgery never seems to come with any guarantees. Certainly a lot of professional athletes have used ultrasound.

Yep same here - don't get the locking though, but it still gives way as and when it deems fit.
Same as Bozza, they used a bit of my hamstring and thats never been the same since either, cramps up very easily

Damp or cold? As soon as the cold gets into my knee its sore for days - i've been warned its pre-arthritic, but I don't know how factual that is as it didn't come from a qualified source
