How do you work out your average?

Total score / games played (adding 7 for each time failed)
Look at your stats and count up your total score, for me it is
5x2 =10
10x3=30
18x4=72
10x5=50
1x6= 6
And 1x7 = 7(I messed up once and failed)
Add all of the totals = 175 divided by number of games played 45 (for me)
Calculator says 3.888
Round up the third decimal point of 5 or above, so
3.89 for me.

How do you work out your average?

Look at your summary table on Wordle. That will tell you how many times you have got it right in 1-6 goes.

Say your table is:

1 = 1
2 = 3
3 = 9
4 = 12
5 = 6
6 = 3

We count a fail as a 7.

Say you’ve failed three times

That means you’ve played 37 times in total.

Then you multiply each line out:

1 x 1 = 1
2 x 3 = 6
3 x 9 = 27
4 x 12 = 48
5 x 6 = 30
6 x 3 = 18
7 x 3 = 21

Then sum the products and divide by the number of games:

(1+6+27+48+30+18+21)/37 = 151/37 = 4.081.

If the third digit after the decimal point is 0-4, we round down; if 5-9, we round up.

Thus, your 4.081 gets reported as 4.08.
