I’ve seen comments on googling that today’s was the most difficult ever and had broken lots of people’s streaks- in the Indy for example.

I took 6, but can’t help thinking a lot of it is how the letters fall. There was one a couple of weeks ago where I got ?ight on the second go. Then you realise how many five letter words there are ending in “ight”. I didn’t get to the right one.

Some people take this too seriously. It’s a game!

There was an article in the Guardian the other day by somebody complaining it had become more difficult since the NYtimes took it over, and they were going to give it up in protest, complaining about words like ultra and caulk. I got both those, even though I would consider ultra a prefix rather than a word, but there you go…..

I don’t think anyone on here is that silly.

If you end up in a similar position in the future, play the percentages and make your next guess something that you know is wrong, but could take out several options in one go. FARMS would have confirmed or ruled out, fight, right, might & sight in one guess.

Its the Chris Hughton option, but, like Chris, would have kept you safe.

I do that often, will always try and get out vowels and common consonents early doors and have often made eligible words that contain as many of those letters, but that you know will not be the actual right word.

If in "hard" mode you have to use all the letters you already have whether they be in the right order or not

Or even a suffix, as in 'Palace Ultra'....!
