A very silly question about AVERAGES.

How do you calculate a not solved? I had an X early on and another day when I started, got distracted and forgot to try and finish so I have failed twice. If I just add two games to my total number of games my average actually comes down because I'm not adding a corresponding score, but surely it should go up? Do you use 7? My linear stats have now gone under 4 but I'm wondering if that's how the rest of you calculate them?
