I think the article quotes Net spend and really means that we havent sold anybody of value as opposed to having spent the 10th largest amount.

If we go down, would these be attainable sale values for top players?:

Dunk £40m
Propper £35m
Montoya £15m
Gross £15m
Jahanbakhsh £25m
Locadia £10m
Andone £10m
Izquierdo £20m

Dunk, Groß and Andone yes everyone else no

If we go down we'd be lucky to get more than 50 for the lot. Have you tried selling anything recently?

It actually shows we haven't sold anyone to balance the books, instead we've kept investing. How many of these big purchases (>£5m) are really duds or don't show promise ?

Ryan, Propper, Trossard, Montoya, Mooy, Bernardo, Bissouma, Webster, MacAllister, Izquierdo, Locadia, Andone, Maupay, Jahanbaksh

Locadia and Andone, sure, but Andone was the cheapest of all of those. And for players who cost less, Gross, Murray, Knockaert, Duffy, Burn were all bargains.

Not entirely. You have to take into account where we've come from. As a PL team we're virtually starting from scratch, and all we've done so far (and will for seasons to come) is trying to catch up with clubs which have been established here for years.
Teams that have been in the PL for years are starting with £20 - £30M plus players in every position (and often on the bench too). How many £20M players have we got?

I accept totally the point that we were building from scratch, although Poyet left us with a more than decent squad. But if you look at the above list, how many, after 6 Premier League transfer windows(minus 1 day) could be described as an unqualified success ?

For me, definitely Ryan, Duffy, Murray (up to this season) and arguably Propper, Gross, although neither really take the game by the scruff of the neck. This season certainly Mooy, Maupay and perhaps Burn, with Trossard at times. The rest, inconsistent, unproven or a disappointment at this level.

Third season in and we are again in a relegation battle, short of striker options, and no midfielder with the strength and power to really take the game by the scruff of the neck and dominate an opposition. Generally I have really enjoyed the games this season, but I am concerned that if we don't strengthen, up front especially, we are in real danger of the drop.

So suddenly we have a very promising young, quick right back seemingly joining us over Chelsea...

A brand new Argentine international on the verge of ‘signing’ who is a winger / attacker type player

Mooy (our player of the season so far) on a perm

All we need is a striker if the above happens and suddenly it’s potentially a very good window...?

Amazing how 2 not yet confirmed, effectively rumours can totally change the mood. Get these deals over the line and a striker and we've had a cracking window I'd say

Imagine how good it could have been if the recruitment team hadn't left it till the last minute.

Reckon the RB will be done as The Sun / Sky have said so and the Argus say it’s being worked on. MacAllister the Argus day is happening. I think both will personally.

Sarcasm?!

I agree, I think the 2 deals will go through. I like the look of Lamptey, looks a real talent and pace to burn in attack and tracking back. Mac Allister obviously an unknown but looks to have an eye for a killer ball.

A striker too is wishful thinking, but you never know...

I once wished for a NES for Xmas - and he bloody brought me one the legend (Santa). So I’m gonna wish again now. Pray to God / Allah / Alan etc - all of them, just to the on the safe side.

Ps - Alan is a God I worship. He wears a turban and I have an emoji of him on my phone.

They really need to reduce the window to three days, cut out a hell of a lot of fan angst and stop the agent games.
