I Actually agree with some of WW points on this, Dicker hasn't pulled up any trees in his last 6 or 7 performances and to be honest has not impressed me that much, I am not saying he doesn't have the ability because we saw what he can do towards the end of last season but along with most of the team I don't think he's been performing at all.

I'll probably be abused for saying it but what the hell.

WW - you shoot credibility in the foot by giving El Abd a 7 and Elphick a 0 (and Smith a 3 for that matter) in the Ratings thread. You have an agenda as much as the next fan. No idea why you don't like Dicker - but he had an immense game. If even the Sponsors can spot it - and they would normally give MOM to a striker who scores two goals no matter how well another player played - then he had a good game.

For me personally, Bennett shaded MOM because their defence were terrified of him, but Dicker had a great game and is a spanking buy IMHO.

READ what I've said. READ It.

At no point have I said "I don't like Dicker" - I do, but while I think his composure was just what we needed last season, I'm not so sure it's actually effective at doing much, other than perhaps getting the ball to Bennett (which is crucial given our succession of flops on the left wing).

I have no agenda, I quite like Elphick, but he's in a rotten patch of form and really needs to be dropped and have a few reserve games to get his head straight.

What the hell is wrong with giving El-Abd a 7? He, like Dicker, didn't put a foot wrong yesterday as far as I can remember, but at the same time didn't do anything outstanding either, so he gets a fairly decent mark. What's the problem there?

As for your reasoning about the sponsors, it's accepted that unless anyone is really outstanding, they give Man of the Match to the player they want a photo with. In the last few games, it regularly has been Dicker - he's flavour of the month, but I'm not really sure why, when he was much more effective last season.

Dicker was easily our most influential player yesterday. Was involved more than anyone and dominated the centre of the team.

Fossie scored
Dickinson did ok
Tunny was ok
Hoyte did well too
Elliot was ok but ducked out of a few challenges first half.

But can you really expect your views to be taken seriously when you give a player 0? What you are saying is that Elphick could not have been worse - there is NOTHING he could have done that would have made his eprformance worse. That's clearly idiotic - and as for El Abd, he did ok, but take a look at the highlights of the game to see a player who looked lost. I now it's not his position - but that still doesn't mean he deserves a 7.

Calm down - it's a matter of opinions. We just don't agree on this one.

You are totally wrong there. I heard exactly how MOM was chosen yesterday and if they had done what you suggest they would have picked Fossie just because its an easy choice and he scored two goals.

The choice was between Fossie, Dicker, Dickinson Elliot and Beckham*.

In the end they went with Dicker because other people around them all suggested Dicker did the best

*Just kidding about Beckham Honest

Him and Crofts do not work in the middle, both trying to hold the midfield.

Ive been saying that for ages, i want to see dicker turned into an attacking player but cant see it happening zith the current coaching set up

Blimey WW, where do you start with this?

El Abd didn't put a foot wrong yesterday? Well apart from their three goals all coming from his side and numerous other occasions where Hartlepool got in behind him no, I suppose he didn't.

Crofts "bombs forward" and gets involved in the action? No, watch him, he really doesn't. Dicker CARRIES Crofts because Crofts is just so off the pace it's unreal. The number of times he actually touches the ball is pathetic.

And as for the main point, well Dicker has got more composure, passing ability and all-round skill than every other midfielder at the club combined - and along with Elliott and Forster is one of only three players earning their money at the moment. It doesn't matter where he gets the ball or how many players are trying to tackle him, he ALWAYS keeps it and finds one of our men. He's got great control and intelligence - note how often he gets the ball in a position a Crofts-type would hoof it and instead he just does a little turn or shimmy and totally beats the opposition. To me, he's so skilful and composed he looks like a championship player trying to do the work of three men in our midfield.

Al-abd had an okay game yesterday, was left exposed on many occasions because Davies did not help out at all defensively.

Crofts is an excellent player. Completely different to Dicker. This does not make him a bad player though. To say he was off of the pace just shows a lack of knowledge on your part. You are probably one of those who thought Hammond didn't contribute to the team. We still haven't replaced him though.

Indeed - currently, you keep hearing the words "composed" "great control" "Championship midfielder" "keeps posession" "intelligence" and all those superlatives (see TCB's post) but generally, it isn't proving effective as he's not creating anything with it.

As I've said before, Crofts is the one of the two who gets into the attacking positions, but unfortunately his best work also seems to come in our half of the pitch. Unless he can convert his forward play into more goals/supplying of the strikers, then it's a partnership that doesn't do much for team in the grand scheme of things, however "composed" it might appear to be.

Davies is a joke, but that doesn't excuse some of El Abd's "defending."

Haha, Crofts is "excellent"? Tell me another one! He runs around a lot, he makes the occasional tackle and not a lot else. He doesn't run with the ball, he doesn't shoot, he doesn't get forward, he doesn't make any good passes, he's not an exceptionally tough player. Just a league one/two jack of all trades, master of none. Nowhere even vaguely close to being good enough for a team with any ambition of the championship. He doesn't embarrass himself, I'll admit that, but he doesn't bring anything to the party either.

He hit the crossbar twice in his last homegame, suggesting he does get forward, and does have a crack a goal (as does his volley from the edge of the area the other week).

Dont disagree that much otherwise though.

News flash- We are an average league one side. These are the players we can attract/afford at the moment.
