Agreed, I'll have a cup too, actually another beer. Today was a pleasant (weather) Saturday afternoon watching little old Brighton in the Premier League football after decades of lower league kick-a-ball. With 33 points in the bag and no chance of relegation (realistically). OK, today's performance wasn't great (actually less than great) but on the whole we've had a good season with still more to come and at least we can now go to the matches. The Amex may be sod to get to. Even the Goldstone - at least it was our Goldstone - was a bit of a faff with queues, crumbling terraces, stinking bogs, wind, rain and a big geezer that always came and stood in front at the last minute. What's not to like?

Looking forward to the rest of this season and next.

PS Harry Wilson's tackle - make sure you give up the right ticket, mine's 197. Don't want another pre-pubescent spotty yoof who's just expanded his swear-vocabulary betwixt.

Noted. (Those boys. FFS. Is there some sort of youtube channel they watch that teaches them some sort of football cliche bingo to tick off at each game? "press!" "spare man!" "use the false number two!" "come inside him!". Well I assumed it was a youtube channel, but......)

This……the fickle flouncing by a few, and the need to publicly announce their decision, weakly justifying it with another pop at Potter, the club, the PL, KO times, trains, pies, flasks, bottle tops or whatever is getting a bit tedious. No-one is forcing anyone to have a ST or go to any games, so if you can’t be arsed, just don’t bother

They'll grow up to be cynical old bu99ers one day.

Just like us.

I have a question, I’ve noticed a lot of people using the hassle of getting to and from the ground as an excuse/reason to stop going, has something changed to make things dramatically worse? I appreciate Bennett’s Field is no longer in operation but that wasn’t huge, I’ve been fortunate that my travel arrangements haven’t really altered so I’m wondering if I’ve missed something?

I’m just indifferent about Albion Amex games. 4 hours out to see non-winning football is a bore.

But for others, hasn’t there been:

- new train issues.
- ever changing unsociable fixture times.
- Bennett’s parkers now use Sussex Uni, taking spaces from others who then use the Bridge Car Park and have to sit there for epochs post games.

???

First time ever , I left early on the 85th minute , I knew we were not going to score , after last week’s debacle I had enough , so walk straight on a bus and got home roughly the same time as if the match had started at 300pm .
People around me moaning about the attack, but I am more concerned about the defence , letting in too many goals . Mind you not surprised we lost , never seen us beat Villa

I’d noticed an uptick in traffic exiting the university, wasn’t aware of any train issues other than general incompetence by Southern. I’m. Lucky that I don’t really find a few fixture changes too much of an imposition.

I don’t use the trains, but from memory - the London line works affects those coming from mid Sussex, plus I’m sure there’s been nsc angst in the last 2 months or so about the westbound trains post game (a lack of, with huge time gaps between trains).

The team are doing their best to help by losing home games very early on, preventing stampedes near final whistle.

I am really concerned about midfield. That’s a full house.

Parking used to be a doddle for me in car park C. Now I have to go on NSC every day (well, OK....but) to get tipped the wink when tickets are on sale for the greatly inferior car park that is, in addition to all other drama, quite a walk for an old git like me. Albeit this inconvenience has been frequently mitigated by a lion of NSC who has sorted me aaaht via a private parking arrangement. ???

I suspect there are many old buffers who are subconsciously looking for an excuse, to be honest. My pal and neighbour, Bob the retired social worker, can't be arse to walk 50 yards up the road to mine to watch his beloved Liverpool when I have them on Amazon, and would rather listen on the radio. It comes to us all. Maybe. However..."Let no grumpy old man syndrome ruin one's life and hasten the clammy welcome of the cold grave", is my motto. One of them, anyway. Another is "Don't sniff milk to see if it has gone off when you can already see it's gone green. FFS". ???

I really wanted to leave early last week, but Jnr was having none of it.

Today we left a couple of minutes before you, for the first time in x seasons.
Jnr tried the same argument again, this time I countered with:-

'what have you seen in the last 3 games to suggest we'll have a shot on target, let alone score 2 goals'.

We left soon after.

With home energy price hikes and fuel prices on the increase I can see this being the tipping point for a lot of people starting to bin off luxuries like football STs, phone upgrades, streaming subscriptions and the like to offset the cost.

Nothing of note has changed with the trains as far as I can tell. It’s an okay service which is still, after 20-30 years, completely taken out of service from Three Bridges to Brighton for multiple weekends a year.

It’s another easy addition to the excuses list for anyone that can’t be bothered to go any more……..seems to me that most of those giving up have a cumulative drip-feed of things that eventually combine to tip the balance. If we’d won 10 in a row at home instead of not winning in 10 this thread probably wouldn’t exist. The ebbs and flows of performances and results over seasons, let alone a few months, are a normal part of following a team for me though so wouldn’t impact my decision

I will be for medical reasons. I would renew if I lived in Sussex but a 180 -mile round trip with my health as it is likely to be from now on is just too much to do regularly. I feel bad as part of me feels that it is giving in but I have to be realistic.

I can understand people giving up ST's for financial reasons with the oncoming cost of living shitstorm and they have my sympathies, but a couple of the other reasons cited on here

It's hard to get to/from the Amex and takes all afternoon. It took just as long walking from Mile Oak to the Goldstone and back again (Yes, I know people moved away from Brighton, but wasn't that always the case ?)
It's the football. Are you seriously saying we haven't been far far worse and for far far longer periods than we are at the moment ?

Also since Covid some of us have discovered the joys of the non league game again. As many on here know I have been going to Shoreham for the last 2 seasons and love the fact that the players seem to really enjoy playing the game, and clearly not for the money. I can walk to the ground in 15mins, no bloody VAR, standing to watch the game with a beer, regular Saturday afternoon kick offs, cheap entry, and ultimately a far more enjoyable experience all round. I don't need a padded seat and £7 burgers to entice me to the Amex anymore.

There is now a far more attractive option than watching prima donna players play acting for thousands of pounds a week and that is non league football. I still love the Albion as a club but for me Saturdays are far more enjoyable watching a game down at Middle Road.

If the idea of people talking about cancelling their season tickets upsets you so much then maybe don’t open a thread with the title of this one.

Our gas and electric price rise for the next 12 months is only slightly greater than mine and Jnr’s STs - that’s just the amount above the cost we’re already paying.
