Thinking of going there for a 5 day R&R session before coming to Blighty in June for a few weeks. Anyone been there, some mates from Auckland are going and said I should tag along (I think there intentions may be impure!).

I just want to lie on a beach for 5 days, be waited on and relax before flying to UK for 3 weeks of intense catching up with family and friends.

Where on Phuket?

Kamala is a quiet family holiday type of place. Patong is very lively. I've been to Kamala and Karon and will be back in Karon in January.

If you want to relax, Patong Beach is probably not a good choice. Karon is good-a very long beach so it never seems too crowded (in June it will be very quiet and inexpensive as it is out of season). Plenty of restaurants at each end of the town and there are some nice places to eat at Kata.

Have a look:

The posh bit
It is nice when you get away from patong and karon. these two places are very busy and to be honest a shit hole.
lots of girls availible for the hour etc. the beach has row after row of umbrella/sun beds. like the costas at the worst.

i would head somewhere quite to get the best from thailand.

agreed Karon beach is lovely as is Kata, Kata is more lively true but both have decent bars and restaurants, which like the immaculate hotels around are very clean and cheap.
