My dad and his wife TREATED us and our two kids for a couple of days in Lapland.

The cold is not normally a worry - the hotels provide you with the right clothes. Our kids (5 & 3) absolutely loved it. Of all the activities we did (including skidoo driving, husky dog racing, reindeer rides) the thing they enjoyed most was plain old SLEDGING.

And the arctic circle is a strange place, so worth a visit. We were outside most of the time, yet it was light for maybe 4 hours in total - and the sun never rises!

We have. If your youngest is only going to be two years old I would wait a year or two and go then.

We went when my eldest daughter was just over two years old and she was too young to really appreciate it. The children went back with their grandparents when said daughter was four years old and it was a much more successful trip.

I few guys at work have taken their families and said it was absolutely fantastic! Saying that, 2 does seem a little on the young side. My mate went with his 9 year old, 6 year old and 4 year old kids and had a great time.

Take them to Withdean instead. See Martin Perry dressed as Austin Powers.

Actually, no, scrub that. Miles too cold for kids. And Lapland's cheaper.

Mrs Taz and I went with our 2 little Tazzies about 5 years ago, kids were 3 and 6. It was amazing. Minus 20c most of the time but it didn't feel THAT cold. You do get given the relevant clothing to wear. We did Huskie Sledging, Snow Mobiles, Reindeer Rides, ice fishing (caught sweet FA! ) and each event was a full days worth not just a quick try. The main event was meeting the REAL Father Christmas! It was an all round fantastic 5 days.

Very magical.

I would recommend it to anyone with children (Parents need to have alot of energy though!) Only downside was eating Rudolph nearly every night for dinner! (Don't think it was actually Rudolph but perhaps a distant relation! )

I've been too, when little Bion was about 6 but we went with other family that included my 2 year old (at that time) niece. It really is magical there, you are given the correct clothes to wear although they did have some trouble finding boots etc to fit my niece but we all had a fantastic time. It is cold but you don't notice it as you are so busy having fun.

Personally I would wait until your youngest is slightly older as you will be quite restricted taking part in some of the activities with one so young. In fact, I'm seriously considering going again this year with young Bion, who will be 10, as I'm sure he'll get even more out of it with being a bit older (and I enjoyed it so much last time too!).

I would highly recommend Canterbury Travel if you do go, their tour (I went on the 4 night one) was absolutely excellent and superbly organised.

My brother got us a good deal on a day trip to Lapland a few years ago (he works for an airline).

We were delayed in taking off so we missed BOTH hours of daylight.

Saw the REAL santa, had some Reindeer and motorski rides. Brilliant day out. Not sure I'd want to stay for a few days though!

My uncle treated all the family and our kiddies 5 years ago to a 3 night 4 day stay in Lapland. Can only say it was a very enjoyable and memorable experience from start to finnish for the children and the adults alike.

Wouldn't go for one of the 1 day trips though!

I'm probably missing something but if you want snow-based antics for the family, why not go to a ski resort?

Yes, you are clearly missing something. He wanted to take his kids to Lapland for Christmas. Father Christmas lives in Lapland, not Austria or Switzerland or somewhere.

Also Father Christmas cant ski. FACT.
