Not been on the Airbus A380 but came back from Singapore on Air France in April and it was awful. Very little leg room, poor choice of food, entertainment was ok with choice of films but as for TV programmes they were mostly in French (ok no suprise there!) - We went with KLM who I would definatly fly with again, As for Air France - no chance!

So you think there's a possibility that the newest passenger jet built WOULDN'T have seat-back IFE?

What other things are you interested in?

Went to Singapore with KLM, the flight was from Heathrow via Amsterdam and on the second leg was fairly empty. The pilot asked us to stay in our allocated seats for the first hour or so of the flight due to weight distribution but after that moved over and spread out over three seats. Food wasnt up to much but edible. Rather than push the drinks trolley down every 5mins they had a drinks fridge and snack area at the back of the plane that you could go up to and help yourself.
In terms of in flight entertainment the choice of programme in English was fairly good -

Worth checking out seatguru.com before you fly. Its not too hard with KLM to see what type of plane you are on (they email you this with the flight details) You can then log on the above website and it tells you the seats to go for with the most leg room etc. We did online check in and managed to bag extra leg room seats free.

went on it business class from Singapore to Tokyo (Singapore Air) and used the fold out bed thingy - I'm 5ft 9 and half in old money and could all but fully stretch out in it - really nice.
Got one from Perth to Sydny recently (Qantas) up the back and though it was rather good....

Air France are going to be operating their new ones CDG LHR for a bit and doing cheapo fares on it to bed them in if anyone fancies a ride on one and a cheap trip to Paris.

Seat pitch (which roughly equates to leg room) is all important here, for me anyway. Air France comes in at a miserly 31" compared to say Air Malaysia with 34". Those 3" can mean a lot! Which ties in with Surrey Jim's post.

I went on an Airbus A380 to Vancouver with Thomas Cook last year.

It was horrible, even though we went into premium economy the seats were crap and cramped, the entertainment system was awful and I still had a numb arse 3 days after getting there.

For the price I paid I would go KLM/Air France again - may not be 5* service but it ticks the boxes with value for money. BA/Singapore Airlines worked out to about £750 rtn whereas KLM/Air France were £300 (however with changeover) This being only marginally more than an Air Asia (budget airline) with change in KL.

this is it, peoples expectations for the money in economy are bonkers. there is no excuse for stuff being broken but the sense of entitlement is laughable from some punters. people do talk a lot of shit about all this. the public wants champagne on a beer budget half the time. its not the fiftie anymore but in peoples heads they feel something is 'wrong' if they get treated very averagely as there is still this residual perception of glamour. there is glamour aplenty if you want to pay for it, like people did in the fifties.

Really? I thought only Emirates, Qantas and Singapore Airlines had them last year. Are you sure it was the double decker A380 you went on and not an A330 or 340?

I assumed Thomas Cook meant booked through them rather than Thomas Cook Airlines
