Had a lads weekend there 3 years ago, had a great time, took in a match at the Mestalla, I remember Vallencia lost to Sporting Gigon but not much else about the game as kick off was 10pm, so we had had a few by ten!. Plenty to do and see as well as drink though!

yes its a stunning city, great beaches with cool beach bars, its often overlooked in favour of Barca but its one of my and my wifes favourite european cities..... it is very spanish though and not many english speakers which adds to the fun. beautiful old historic city centre, great shopping and loads of out door eateries/plazas

Stunning city! I was lucky enough to watch MotoGP there around five years ago, all courtesy of Honda! Brilliant place with numerous bars, restaurants, nightclubs etc. All mixed in with a healthy dose of culture, a bit like Brighton but far more modern.

Sent from my inbred hatred of all things South London .....HD

Went there two years ago. Amazing city. Brilliant beaches, heaps of culture, and a cracking nightlife. Oh and not to forget the little old Mestalla! Saw valencia beat tenerife on the last day of the 09-10 season.

One of my favourite cities for sure.

The seaside.
Yeah, really don't like hot countries a rule but forced myself to go out there when Charlton played Valencia in a pre-season friendly a few years ago. At the height of bloody summer. Couldn't walk anywhere without a bottle of water and they helpfully had huge temperature displays on every roundabout to remind you how hot (and humid) it was. The local delicacy is some hot drink made out of chestnuts that tastes like vomit. The area with the cinema and aquarium/dolphinarium in - that futuristic looking bit pictured - is fab and properly like walking around a sci-fi set. The Mestalla is huge, swerved the away end which you could only get to by helicopter, but even the home bit I was in was miles from the action. Very impressive, although the facilities leave a lot to be desired. Game kicked off at 11.30pm because of the heat. Weird to come out of a game in the early hours and have to go to a nightclub for a drink as most bars were shut. A pretty young filly in the club wandered up to me and said she'd kiss me for three Euros. Strange place. Nice Irish bar top right of the main square if you fancy a break from the pissy lager everywhere else sells. Twister lollies in Spain are much more sherberty than the ones you get in the UK. And that is all you need to know about Valencia.

lived there for a summer - good place for sure :) once you get over the 'we are valenciano' type thing going down.

anyone ever go to the "nickers market" at the mestalla at 4am every sunday (walking home) - everything nicked over the week gets sold at a market there. the authorities turn a blind eye.

unreal.

best rioja ever in some of the places in valencia.

Yep, a daytrip with family, whilst holidaying nearby in 2007.

Amazing city centre ... seemed much bigger than for a city of 1,000,000.
Had that latin feel of say Buenos Aires.
The modern arts & sealife centre located in the old (diverted away) river bed was massive and impressive.
Hectic roads, with 13 lane inner city roundabouts, and latin driving tactics.
The current Mestella stadium is city centre, steep, and aged.
Can't afford to complete the nou 75,000 seat mestella as €400 in debt:
Nou Mestalla stadium - Valencia - Pictures - Zimbio

Parking is amazing in some places they double park but leave the handbrake off so you move the row of cars to get out a gap.

Had a long weekend there a couple of years ago. Great city, no match on but saw stadium.
Old city centre a couple of miles from sea. Beach and port side of city very modern.
Great eating, drinking etc.. Well worth a visit.

Was lucky enough to work at Ca Sento for a month it was during the summer so did not get to see any football but the city is stunning, as was the experience. The Spanish have a much more relaxed way of life, will return one day!

Fantastic city, and massively under-rated. It has everything. Go.

went there on a friends stag weekender, was great although valencia were playing away that weekend and no one else fancied a trip to villereal.

apparently valencia is the gay capital of spain, I was told whilst out there.

The strip clubs were pretty good (women entertaining, lol), be good if the albion play there next season in a friendly dead easy to get to the ground from the airport also hotels were cheap

I've been there. Managed to get inside the stadium to have a quick look. Incredibly high stadium. Would be a really intense atmosphere for a big game. I will never ever in my life forget how hot and humid it was though. Went in august and it must have been 40+ degrees C. Like already stated needed water in hand. But I was also blown away and enjoyed the city. Can see why the formula one were interested in having a race there (albeit a shit one).

Some years ago I stayed in Denia between Alicante and Valencia in a two and a quarter bedroom villa with my wife, step daughter her husband and four boys so decided I needed a day out from the rabble and took the car to Gandia and picked up the train to Valencia.
Wow, what a city. I did what I usually do when visiting a new city and found the open top tourist bus and did the city tour, you can then pinpoint areas of interest and go back after the tour. I have to say what looked massively impressive, they were completing the park that is pictured in the initial post and I have promised myself a return visit now it is open. It apparently contains an aquarium that contains all the oceans of the world in different areas, concert halls, water parks, etc. etc.
General Franco, the former dictator, got pissed off with the city constantly being flooded in the winter he blocked the river and the former river bed is now a park. The river which is now spread out in fields around the city is now used as paddy fields for rice growing and can be seen on the train journey to and from Gandia.
I will definitely go again for a longer visit.
