Don't be so sure of that ...

Random mobile phone tracking has been happening, so if you want to be a covidiot and break the quarantine, make sure you leave your mobile phone at home.

Fines up to a grand may be dished out for breachers.

That'll learn 'em ....

Yes. I full expect a few random people to be fined. I expect these will be the sort of person who flagrantly and repeatedly flouts the regs, and gets all gobby about it. And then several different people report them. And after repeated complaints the police find a day when they are not too busy dealing with other things.

Where are you getting your information from regarding phone tracking? You might have read that somewhere in good faith, but it's absolute bullshit.

If you are 100% confident it's "absolute bullshit" where are you getting that information from?
If you want to flaunt, all I'm saying is don't trust the "they're not interested in little ol' me" defence.

Mobile phone movement / trace is a well used technology for proving where someone's phone was at any given date / time [transmitter connection signal strength triangulation] - if you wish to believe this is BS then good luck to you.
Of course they won't investigate EVERY single returning holidaymaker [resource constrained] but I know they do random checks because my nephew was contacted some 6 weeks ago after returning from Fuerteventura whilst all of Spain returnees were under a 14-day isolation curfew. So that is why I know they do.

As I said above, he works/worked for Border Force.

I've a big birthday this November (65th) and wanted to do something a bit different to an expensive weekend with close family in the UK.
Weeks in the planning checking countries still open, somewhere none of my family had been before. Poland, great choice. Thursday afternoon Wifey and I looked up flights and hotels, cancellation policy being the most important rather than star rating. Easyjet booked, hotel narrowed down to 4. We'll resume search Friday I said. Hours later Poland put on list. Back to Easyjet where it kindly stated I still had 19 hours 45 minutes of the 24 hours in which to cancel. I'm out!
Looks like it's Butlins after all.

.

I'm not saying it isn't well used technology, I'm saying that it being used to see if somebody is breaking the self-isolating rules is BS. Just want to get this out there because this is how fake news spreads so i feel it is only right to pull you up on it.

They were not checking the form you’re supposed to complete; how will they know?

Someone I know was contacted when they got back from Spain last week, something along the lines of "we're watching you"

I know somebody that has just come back last night /this morning from Turkey. They meet someone on holiday that has been tested positive. They went to the cafe for breakfast this morning! [emoji848][emoji853]

People like that make me despair. A lot of regulations are just made up (like 10pm closing time) but the fact there is an actual real chance they might be infected and they just do what they want is so frustrating.

After the cafe, they then self isolated and ordered the home tests. Hopefully they haven't infected anyone in the meantime...

They were not checking the form you’re supposed to complete; how will they know?

You had to complete the form online at Antalya airport prior to checking in. If you didn’t complete it you couldn’t check in.

Upon arrival at Gatwick, prior to going through passport control, police were checking that every passenger had completed the form.

Nobody could have got on that flight without completing the online form.
