It could not be clearer, this is now a 5 to 8 year academy lead plan. In about 7 years time we will be producing senior team talent in the same way that Southampton were doing 2 years ago. Talent we can use to win things on the pitch, and talent we can sell on to harvest huge profits for the playing side, and to keep the academy lead machine running.

That is how it is going to be. And in about 5 or so years time the fans will begin to truly thank the club for the long term plan they implemented. In the meantime of course, get used to mediocrity, on the pitch, and in the mid table status.

This may be so, but how many fans will be left (probably only the Withdean fans). In the meantime Bournemouth, Brentford et al have shown Premiership football can be gained on a wisely spent modest budget. Just not sure about us being able to organise going that route though.

During the games this season or off the field you mean? Difficult to tell on ythe field, cant comment about their spare time..

I've heard a rumour WCP that the staff were arguing over respective attendance levels of the Albion and Palace since 1930, and debating whether Rick Astley or T'Pau were the best modern music combo.

No wonder they were still at it at 2:30 in the morning.

How much has that drop cost the club?

Ticket income in 2014 was £10.4 million. That includes away fans and pay on the day purchases too.

If we lose 20% of ST income by 2015/16 then I reckon it would be about a £1.2 million drop in revenue.

Ive heard thats what they do on the pitch on a saturday afternoon and edplains why our forwards cant hit a barn door from 5 yards.. as Murray scores another goal in the top flight. It would be interesting to make a team of players let go for not being good enough and compare them to our current lot. One day we might have a coaching staff who knows something about football

T'Pau or Rick Astley though. That's the BURNING question, especially now that it's the close season.

At what point did building the infrastructure and add-ons become the main focus of our football club?

I'm sure a very lovely training complex exists somewhere in the county. I'm sure the players swan around within it like GODS wearing bathrobes and slippers.

It's all Emperors New Clothes tho eh?

None of that sh*t will get you promoted to the hallowed ground of the Premier League, then finishing bottom 3 and scooping the parachute payments. You need serious investment and/or team spirit to make that leap. How do we recreate that team spirit nowadays? Used to be easy in the Withdean days cos there was f*ck all else going for us. How do we do that NOW?

Many suspected this when the sacking of Gus happened and got shouted down on here.

This was never about Gus - yes he was an egoistic sod like all of sport's big winners - but about what would come after Gus. And we got two years of downward sliding mediocrity and could get a third coming up unless the board change their approach.

I say this as a massive fan of Hughton but he's been on a hiding to nothing last few months

Yeah, if he brought him on earlier and we lost the game, even the ******s on here wouldn't have made him the scapegoat. Would they?

Do you honestly believe that? If he missed an open goal loads of people would be saying he wasn't ready for the first team. I don't think the situation was about him being ready. It was about the whole experience with getting on the pitch being the icing on the cake. He is going to spend the summer feeling on top of the world, instead of reading Brighton fans writing that he isn't ready, I'm sure.

I was referring to us. Thank goodness it is all over and that we're still in the Championship. Summer is now here, recharge our batteries and gird our loins (however you do that!) for next season.

You need to buy a tunic first though.

How about all the lost revenue, pies, drink and merchandise that'll be lost due to people not buying season tickets or match day tickets, if that included?

Coming on for only three seconds suggests the manager thinks he isn't ready. How that will affect his summer, I don't know.

No more than £100-150k to the bottom line. Given that the average player costs the club £500k a year it doesn't make a huge difference.

If the club is going to sign experienced strikers, he won't even get on the bench next season. Now his mates will probably tease him with 10 second Tilley puns over the summer .
