I got mine just after the world cup finished. Fantastic picture quality on my Panasonic 42" top of the range plasma. Not much been on yet, mainly watched films so far. But it looks like all the live footymatches are going to be broadcast in hd now. I am about to watch the Coventry Sunderland match. Superb picture, noticeably way clearer than on the normal sky sports channel. Would be easy to recognise people in the crowd. The grass is no longer just a green area, you can actually see the individual blades. Superb.

OK if you fancy counting blades of grass or looking for your mate in the crowd I suppose.

Having watched some of the World Cup on HD, I have to say I think its pretty overrated. I'll be getting a new TV next year so I suppose it'll be a HD anyway, but I'll certainly not be bothering to bung Sky any more cash by subscribing to HD broadcasts. Not really worth it.

:lolol: :lolol: Just wondered if I am the only one so far. Well worth the extra money imho. Includes sky plus, you can record 2 other channels while watching one, or pause live tv, rewind if you miss a goal, etc.

So it is a gloat thread then :lolol:

Wait a couple of years when more programmes are broadcast in HD then it will probably be worth investing in.

At the moment they're stinging people for £300 for the box and another £10 on top as a monthly subsrciption fee which I think is a lot to ask when it's virtually only sports and the geographic channels in HD.

Like DVD several years ago - it was very expensive to start (you could barely get a player under £400 in the late 90's) and had to import most of your DVD's until the UK market caught up. Now a fairly good player with DTS and muti region can be bought for as little as £60-£70, and DVD's are also now very cheap on-line. The same will happen to HD in time - next year will be see the first releases of DVD's in HD and you can expect to see the first HD capable UK machines (they are already available in the US) costing a fair bit. If you are prepared to wait all these so called 'white' goods drop in price - look at the price of Playstations today.

Does it include an extra 32 hours/day so you can watch all this crap?

Try switching the TV off and TALKING to someone - shock horror there are human beings out there!

I run a small business, working 55 hours a week, with 700 customers, most of who I know on first name terms. Also I have 6 children at home, so its a busy life for me. I am sure you wont begrudge me a decent telly for the few hours I manage to watch it a week.

Each to their own, I have seen demos of HD and Im not that impressed with it.

I dont see any problems with the quality of pictures on a normal tv, therefore I will wait five years when this technology will costs me a tenner.

May be the demos at Currys dont do HD any justice, but honestly I could not really see any difference between this and normal tv.

It should be remembered that most HD boxes in Currys may still not actually be attached to the TV's or to a dish, they may be just running the demo DVD's, have a look at the back of the box, or if they are attached properly, few staff are aware of how to set the TV's up to the best effect.

The Curry demo's aren't even in High Def on most of their HD TV's. They feed the same source to each one via the RF input which is the worst input on the TV's and will show all the imperfections in the picture.

The only ones that normally show a true HD demo are the LG plasma screens which are set up correctly by LG on their own stand in the store.
