See, I thought Kemy looked quite good. Looked fitter, more confident and more motivated to put the work in than he did at any point last season

Indeed, but then if it's last chance saloon (as it is for him imho) and you can't be arsed to put a shift in then you really should jack it in.

Chicksen, March, CMS and Fenelon stood out for me, thought we played much better overall as a team in the second half. Lualua and CMS' goals were absolute crackers!

Kemy looked a different man to me, typified by our first goal. It was nestling in the back of the net when he ran thirty yards to retrieve it and ran half the length of the field to put it on the centre spot. Lower quality opposition or not, that's the hustle I want to see from a player doing his best.

Apart from that Solly looked a different class today - head and shoulders above everyone else.

Fenelon could have had a hat-trick. He looked pretty fast and switched on. Bruno tried hard but achieved little. Calde was a bloody beetroot of hyperactivity and Leo didn't stop smiling and laughing.

A good day out.

A good performance today, with the result almost being incidental. An early indication into how we will play is that Sami will get the wingers tucking in with the full backs supplying the width from either side. Especially in the first half Calde down the right side was utilised, with young Charlie Harris picking him out excellently. Also the way we looked to shoot when in sight of the goal was very encouraging. That was Kaz's first long range goal for at least a year and hopefully that will give him the confidence to start attempting them again.

The defenders did their jobs very well, so much so I think Lewes only had 2 shots all afternoon. Possibly Rob Hunt down the left could have attacked with more intensity, but he was still decent. Kemy looked a bit slow but it was nice to see him posing with fans for pictures. For Buckley and Ulloa see Kemy, as for all three of them it didn't quite come off for them today.

However the main positives to take from today were the performances of Fenelon and Harris. This time last season a number of Development Squad players stepped up to the first team and stayed there. Hopefully those two, as well as Rea, Hunt and Walton, can try and make a challenge on the first team squad.

A very encouraging afternoon all in all.

I'm going to type Goodwin and see what happens in auto correct.

Clearly nothing.

Swap to US English - Goodwin.

Oh...

Many saycin friendlies it is not about the score, it is how well you play. For me this is not the case. Sami will want us to win games like that whatever stage we are at in implementing his style of play, so to convince the players the way he wants to play WILL win us games when the season starts.

I was there and left genuinely unsure if Ulloa played or not. Impressed by Goodwin and all the goals were taken well. Other than that, it was a pre-season friendly and predictably dull.

What was Rob Hunt like? He looked OK for the reserves. Right back.

You are hard to please stripey - personally I thought it better than most of the tripe dished up at the Amex last season.

Agree with many of the comments made. The big difference is that the full backs were much more advanced up the pitch and hugging the touchlines, with the wide forwards tucked in more, and (usually two) defensive midfield players much deeper. All of this with the aim of switching the ball to the full back quickly with long passes -- this seemed to work well.
In terms of players:
First half: Kemy looked well up for it, and Toko seems to be very decisive and quick over short distances, although he's much smaller than I imagined (all this sounds very much like Bridcutt). Neither Ulloa nor Buckley did much, but they did demonstrate a good understanding between each other. Kazenga hit a beauty, and nice to see Calde bombing it down the touchline and grabbing a goal from a corner, showing good control.
Second half: much better, and our young players really looked excellent, with Chicksen, Dunk and JFC incisive and both Ince and March different class. Goodwin did well with his two goals, and CMS was very lively.

Haha. I'm not that hard to please Simmo, I just find some of these pre-season friendlies very uncompetitive. Nice to see some goals today though. Kazenga
