Can't remember what time of year I went- expect it to be cold in November though- but it's a beautiful city.

Stunning architecture, great location by the lake, loads of brilliant bars, restaurants, easy to get around. Home of deep pan pizza. Fantastic musical heritage if you like that kind of thing, blues being the local speciality (there's a massive House of Blues joint downtown by the river). I loved it.

But I reiterate, it can be very cold, so dress accordingly. The wind blows straight off the lake, and with all the skyscrapers, it has something of a wind tunnel effect.

Tis bitterly cold in February but not done a November. Do you know why it is called the "Windy City"? (Nothing to do with Flatulance!)

I went in Nov, Dec and January. You may just miss the first snows in november. Temp wise, expect anything between 6 celsius and -6 celsius daytime and at night drop another 5 degrees once the snow arrives.

Loved the city - magnificent mile is great and try to get to soldier field. Also get to the basketball or ice hockey. fab nights out and not outrageous pricing. Sears tower (now Wills I think) was great but hancock observatory was better. Try to eat as Ginos east pizza - deep dish and very filling. there's a comedy club over the road from it. Also east at Grand Lux on magnificient mile.

I found it pretty underwhelming to be honest. Quite boring compared to most other US cities I've visited

I find that hard to believe. I'd put it up there with Boston, New Orleans and San Diego. Behind only San Francisco, NYC, LA and Miami.

Chicago is awesome - maybe my favourite US city.

the coldest i've EVER been was in Chicago in March. 'windy city' may be a bit of a cliche but when it's cold and the wind whips in off the lake... oh my god...

but it won't matter - you'll have a great time in Chi-town inside or out.

Try the Billy Goat Tavern, underground near the mag Mile. Seedy but brilliant. And head north to Wrigleyville and Belmont for the more bohemian areas.

No but I went to Les Miserables in March. Tickets are a lot cheaper.

Not to bad, mild to be fair. Good park in the centre and modern art, pier worth a look couple of hours, not that greatb a city itself but find anything you like like any big one. Evanston a little way out where North Western Uni is was very nice area

I went in January once. The snow was deep, there was a police warning not to stay outside too long as your eyeballs could freeze shut and a fuel shortage! That was back in '94 though, when they had their worst winter for a long time.

We were just starting a road trip there though, a week later we'd made it to New Orleans and got sunburnt.
