Me too. I think I get the urge then I just realise that it's everyone else nagging me.

I used to drive but haven't done so for over ten years.

I have no interest in doing so and can't understand the motivation of anyone who does instead of using public transport (if it exists).

Price is probably an issue.

What may surprise people is that the real cost of motoring has decreased over the last ten years, whilst the cost of public transport has spiralled in the opposite direction.

I think I might be suicidal if I didn't have a car, sorry.

Never driven, don't have the desire to either. Any distance under ten miles I ride, anything over I use public transport.

I sometimes wish I didn't, I've got leather seats you see and in this hot weather I get zits all over my bottom cheeks :(

Feeder don't mention that in their song do they?

Had a few lessons - drove my dad's car into a pond - and drove instructor to distraction. I'm 53 and will never get behind the wheel of a car again. Like Pantani, I cycle everywhere under 10 to 12 miles and take public transport for longer distances.

I'm nearly 24 and I have never even so much as has a driving lesson. I use buses, trains, taxis and a bicycle to get where I need to get to.
I would like to say it's because I'm doing my bit to save the world, but that would be a lie. I just don't feel like I would be very confident learning to drive. Pretty sad really but I get by!

Partly depends where you live I suppose. I divide my time between Sussex and London. In Sussex, I can't be bothered to wait for the 6 or so buses a day that are a good mile walk away and don't go where I wish to go, East Grinstead or Crawley being their only destinations. In London, I very rarely drive, other than to my flat from Sussex, and occasionally on a Sunday morning if I am going to my London church, which I can do in 20 minutes rather than 40 by public transport. Other than that, for the local stuff I walk, or take the train or tube to get into central London. My local leisure centre has a car park, but it is far more relaxing to take the 319, which also means I can stop off on the way back to shop, etc. To sum it up, no I could not manage without a car in Sussex, yes in London I could and mostly do. I think though that there is an "I'm better than you because I use public transport" mentality, which I find rather annoying, seeing as most of those who have it live in town near to easy public transport.

If me and my partner lived and worked in London, I'm pretty sure we wouldn't bother. However, my fiancee has a 25 mile commute to work (and no viable public transport on the route) and to get a train to the parents/in-laws takes in excess of 4 hours by public transport for a 100 mile trip. Some train routes are relatively accessible from here, but the majority aren't.

For example, this weekend we went from Cambridge to my parents (Stratford-upon-Avon) on the Friday night, from there to Brighton on the Saturday, and from there back to Cambridge on the Sunday. 440 mile round trip that would have cost at least 3 times as much and taken at least twice as long to do by public transport.
