Any LG fridge freezer engineers out there that could give some advice

Got a problem with the water and ice dispenser with the selection constantly changing and pinging without any human intervention! Not sure if place is haunted or unit buggered. Initial call to LG service centre wanting £180 to come and look. Few more local calls in Mid Sussex, but with little success
Any knowledge or recommendation would be gratefully received

Resolve the situation by buying one of those 99p ice cube plastic trays and pour tap water in it for 3 seconds once a week when required
