[Politics] Any Labour Party members on here who are prepared to admit to it?

Joined the labour party in 1993 after leaving university and starting my career. They were, and still are, the mainstream political party that best represents my political values.

Joined when Mr Tony abolished clause 4. Resigned when Mr Tony decided to state fund religious schools. Didn't rejoin when Gordon the Unfit became leader. Didn't rejoin when the wrong milliband became leader. Refused to consider rejoining when the parliamentary party gifted Corbyn the leadership by failing to understand how party leadership elections work in their own party. Campbell, Mandelson and Blair were a formidable team. Undone by a petulant stubborn jock with absolutely no introspection. The rest was history repeating itself.

Personally I'd need to be massively galvanized to join any party just to lend support. That means a leader like Tony Blair. Or Kier Starmer (if he could somehow find a way to depose the old communist). I wouldn't join in order to be an influencer because my experience at work and with my union is that a certain type tends to take over - they know all the rules and procedures, but have no vision, and very little common sense. And, frankly, I'm not a team player.

I agree with much of the above. IMHO UK politics is in a complete mess. I have always voted Labour bar for one year when I tried a tactical Lib Dem vote. The dire state of the most recent Government should have made the last and the next election a cakewalk for Labour but a dreadful vacuum in leadership means the Tories may even get in again next time. Blair/Mandelson/Campbell were indeed formidable and an absence of leadership since has proved disastrous for Labour.

I did nearly quit when the party bowed to the orchestrated pressure to adopt the IHRA exemplar material as I see it as racist.

Is politics any worse or are the public just a lot more suspicious of their bi-partisan agenda's these days? The Lefties hated Thatcher, so to them politics were a complete mess. At the same time Tory supporters hated Hatton, Livingstone and all those other loonies, whilst the Labour party was in turmoil from in fighting. Swings and roundabouts.

I joined in 1984 and was a member until last year when I came to the conclusion that Corbyn is an ineffective Leader of the Opposition; with the utter shambles of Brexit and the current government Labour should be miles ahead in the polls but they aren't and I put this down to Corbyn and his top team (Macdonald, Abbott etc).
From now on I will vote for whoever I think is best for the country and the planet (which will never, IMO, be the Tories).
I am considering joining the Greens as I feel they are politically, economically and ecologically most representative of my views (here in Eastbourne I will never again vote for Stephen Lloyd who stands under the LibDem banner but supports Brexit because "lots of my constituents voted for it")
