I'm in agony here, dull pain all through my top teeth on the right hand side, gets worse when i eat or drink on that side, especially cold drinks, cheek a bit swollen, never had problems with my teeth before apart from when i chipped one, got a feeling this could be a nerve or something but i'm clueless like Magoo, any ideas?...

Could be an abcess, am not a dentist but have had some trouble with my teeth. Can be caused by a lot of things, diet, lack of sleep, stress etc. Your best bet is a couple of Nurofen (you can drink on those) and swill some brandy round your mouth as it can help to numb it. If it's not better in the morning then to the dentists

Just looked up the symptoms for an abcess and i only have 1 of the 4 listed (the pain) maybe the other 3 are on their way... Better ring the dentist in the morning!

just try loads of different combinations up front on your teeth, none of which will work but give it a go anyway.

You have my sympathy though, my lass had a really bad tooth at the back of her mouth in absolute agony and it had to come out, she screamed more when that was done then when she gave birth to our son!!!!!!!

Tooth ache you can keep it.

Does sound like an abcess, if it is get your arse down the dentist asap, it will get worse and you wont have felt pain like it and painkillers wont do anything. The dentist will give you antibiotics.

I can second that, the worst thing is, if it does take hold your face is all interconnected, so you could have toothache, earache, sinus trouble etc. You will be begging for a dentist if it does take hold. But have a nice evening anyway and don't forget the brandy, it helps

Could be a nerve.

I had the same thing back in the Autumn and ended up having the nerve cut out of the gum.

Was supposed to go back a few weeks later and have root canal treatment, but i bottled it and never went.

As a result i regulaly get immense pain for a few days at a time, but i just take industrail painkillers to get rid of it.

Must get it sorted properly soon though:(

All dentist treatment is too bloody expensive! My dentist, from April, will be charging to treat my kids cos the government have withdrawn NHS funding, and trying to find an NHS dentist round here, well forget it! So that means just for a quick check up for both kids its £70, and they are only in there 5 mins!!

Sorry but your dentist is talking rubbish! The Govt have not withdrawn NHS funding at all. In April new contacts are in place for dentists providing NHS treatment and the bottom line is that many dentists don't like this new contact and hence they are going private.

The irony is that for years NHS dentists moaned about the fact that they were payed on a piece work basis and that the standard set NHS fees did not reflect the time spent or allow them to treat patients on an individual basis. In effect they calim it was a treadmill.

The reality is that most dentists were still comforyably earning £60K a year and most far more. Now the Govt have revamped their contracts and funding has been placed in their PCT's they are still bitching.

Dentists want it both ways and the bottom line is that many want to go private as they can then charge whatever they like!

I sympathise Trigger, toothache is an absolute b******. Don't let the cost of treatment put you off going to the dentist. Pay in instalments if you have to.

Lots of dentists taking on NH customers in the fine town of Seaford. I suppose it's because most residents go private.
