Am really enjoying it though, a good old fashioned throwing of the kitchen sink at the 10 men.

I think this is the case. It was an obvious foul by Defoe and the ref really should have blown for it himself without relying on the assistant IMO.Official on the goal line correctly was signalling for a free kick following Defoes foul on the defender who cleared the ball of the line, it just took a long time for the ref to realise what that official was trying to signal
As a spurs fan as well as Albion, it was a shocking decision to not allow Defoes goal. However, even though it was a poor challenge, play was allowed to continue and the goal should have stood.
Having said that, we were shit in the first half and should have done better anyway.
