Used AVG for years back i the XP days - now, my server, desktop and surface pro all run MS Defender - only my dedicated porn-box PC has AVG now.

You can pick up a 2nd hand PC for about £60 - don't install any email or use it for accessing online banking or any other sensible website use.
If you do cop a virus you can't shake off, reinstall and start again - nothing to lose or steal ...

You can do that for free - just run a VM for questionable browsing. VMware is free and windows will run forever without a license.

A bloke I used to work with lost his job (at a different company) because he'd "borrowed" a server at work to be a dedicated porn downloader! This was pre-youporn etc days so he was probably using torrents or usenet. Apparently it was running 24/7

Jokes aside. If using Windows 10, use the inbuilt one, Defender works as good as anything and make sure you keep the patches up to date (run windows updates) and use their malicious software removal tool if you think you've got an issue. Save your money.

Windows Defender is pretty great.

I also have AVG Free which I use to run a PC sweep when something seems to not be working and it is great at that. It had a real problem with a build of Windows 10 last year and slowed everything down but seems to have been fixed now.

You should never ever pay for anti-virus, despite what Currys/PC World tell you.

McAfee have made an absolute killing over the years - charging for AV is tantamount to stealing IMHO.
But getting Micro$oft to agree to having their product "bundled" on every new PM & laptop was a masterstroke in marketing - must be a fair few that just stump of the renewal when the freebie expires ...

And never bother with an anti-virus subscription ever again.

Or a MacBook.

Panda Antivirus (free version) along with Mailware bytes for home PC's. Seems to work well.
