Help needed please.

I have a few items in many forms, they may not be worth anything but scrap value, however they may be collectable.

I don't really trust 'The duke' type characters to get an honest opinion. Is there anyone on here that classifies themself as a good amateur expert?

Coins are one thing I have found very difficult to value, different grades including luster all come into the equation.

What has North stand chat got to offer?

I do know there are a few of antiques on here! But do they hold any value!

You probably need specialists for coins and stamps or try auction houses, the top ones have teams of valuers.

All I’d say is don’t take trash in there. Give things a dust or a wipe, don’t take things that are dirty, but you might be right that patina should be left for the buyer to decide what to do.

For brass household items, do not clean, leave that to the new owner if that is what they choose. Probably the same for most items I think, antiques do not need to be nice and shiny.

General tip - if you have 2 of anything, they are generally worth more than double the selling price of a single item. Buyers want to be able to place them either side of something e.g. mantlepiece etc. I'm referring to candlesticks, vases etc. but it applies to many more items too.

If you have a smartphone then it should have a Google Lens function on it. It's a small square camera -shaped icon, maybe next to the microphone icon.
Take a photo with that and it will link to any similar items that are on sale online.
It should give you an idea of the value.

Thanks, i like this idea for speed, but the results only appears to give you a rough idea and not always the detail required in some items, but i will use it on the tougher items.

rough idea is all you are going to get without an expert or personal sleuthing - which can be interesting. then be prepared to not get those values unless its a genuine rare find. auction prices sold, listed price and shop prices can be very different. i've a friend doing antique sideline, quite fun, also very random. he'll buy some items, put it up for below "market price" then it sits as a listing for 6 mths without interest. next item gets bought by collector within days.

i know a little about coins, only real value is in old or gold (and silver). if they are old values can be wildly different between circulated, lower grades and top grades - orders of magnitude. you can have a go at rough grading yourself with reference book ("Grading British Coins Rotographic" if they are British), at least enough to know if it's in £10/£100/£1000 areas. then look at Numista website and London Coins for some real auction prices.

That looks like meerschaum. Probably Turkish. Nice case. £75-125, I’d estimate.

Thanks, it is, sorry i took the picture the wrong inside of the case! is that including the fact that the tip is broken on the mouth piece? Do you collect or just a keen amateur?

Not sure of any of them but here are my suggestions, 1.) Possibly tourist keepsake from Asia? 2.) Old naval/police truncheon/cosh 3.) Victorian keepsake 'baby rattle' 4.) Japanese kimono accouterment. ??
