I alluded to in a previous thread where our club is now at in terms of recruitment and player investment. I smiled at the irony of perhaps comparing a loanee from Cambridge United to Dutch international from Feyernoord. The former was a healthy energy of anticipation and excitement. Pondering:
Was he tall?
Was he fast?
And;
Can he dribble?

Now we have 5 or 6 YouTube clips, a wealth of stats on position, use of left or right foot, passing accuracy, fouls won et al.

Nowt wrong with that and perhaps this observation is for us older punters to consider.

I will never be able to bring back that exciting feeling I had when we signed Chris Holdroyd. NSC trying to convince itself that non-league players often turn out to be gems.

I remember when we'd get excited because they were Barnsley's player of the year or once played for Everton.

Knew nothing about Graham Cross and Chris Cattlin during Mullery’s first summer, both served us well……

I remember being excited when I thought we were going to sign John Lacey only for him to do an Alex Pritchard and end up at Spurs…..

It's fair to say we've got a bit more to go on these days.

I did enjoy the mystery of the old days though when you had no idea who you'd bought or if they were going to hit or miss. Just blind optimism.
There still remains an element of mystery it’s just different.

we now wonder which plane they might be on, can they speak English, will they get international clearance in time for the next game and how do you actually pronounce his name
