Seeing as the new (and apparently improved) NSC is now almost totally unworkable to oiks like me (it's horrible Bozza, please bring back the old site) and I couldn't get the 'search' engine to work, this is probably a fixtures.

But, in case it's not...

Some twat has just started a 'Say no to Falmer' group on Facebook. Not surprisingly, most members on there are students.

Hurry up Ruth, and put these ****s out of their misery. It's got to be a YES to Falmer

Seeing as no-one that matters gives a toss what a bunch of workshy soap dodging stoodents think, I wouldn't get too worked up about it.

freedom of speech innit

it's not going to make ANY difference, let them do it

oh, and surely its obvious that a group on facebook would be dominated by students?

Need we be concerned?

Found that a while ago.

39 members vs 1000+ members for Pro-Falmer.

Comment from the anti-Falmer page...

"I only just discovered this group by accident. Falmer is possibly the wrongest (is that a word? it is now?) site in the local area to build a home for the Albion. Waterhall is the best choice. It already has the main road and rail links in place and even has a history of hosting football games. The objections are pathetic.

As a long time local resident who happily owned a house overlooking the old Goldstone Ground through the dark days of the demolition, I am no NIMBY. Overall, I have to say that the club has suffered terribly through the whole affair. They were shafted by their management and the council over the sale and destruction of the ground; they were shafted in their years of wandering and now they're being shafted, along with the local universities, in the choice of location for their new home. It's only a pity that the fans, in their desperation for a permanent home for the club, can't see just how badly this will turn out for the whole town." :dunce:

I can imagine the fevered discussions in the corridors of Whitehall now:

"Mrs. Kelly, there's a Facebook group opposing Falmer with 39 members"

"Really? What, pray, is this 'Facebook' you speak of, and why on earth should I care about it?"

I quite like it when anti-Falmer people keep harping on about Waterhall. It just shows that they haven't got a clue what they are talking about.

Anyone up for a few drinks in the Sussex University union bar when Ruth says yes? After that, we could have a few in Falmer village, before moving on to Lewes and the nearest pub to the town hall. The wearing of colours is optional.

Well, since I was there I think Sussex uni has closed most of its decent bars, Falmer bar was always crap and east slope is a proper student dive.

I miss the grapevine.

And to quote him from the Anti-Falmer group, for those that are not members of the site...

"given that average attendance at 9000 seat Withdean Stadium this season is under 6000 - the club are not going to make money from football. If the stadium is built the doors are open for more and more development in the area. In an interview one of the directors of the club Derek Chapman said that when flying over the Downs in his helicopter, he thinks about the development that could take place."
