I didn't realise it at the time but bloody hell, am I glad he was waiting in the wings with plan B.

That's not taking anything away from DK who, despite his lack of mega-funds, managed to keep things going and obtain planning permission for Tony Bloom's takeover.

Massive thanks to both of them.

Seconded!

Why did it "nearly not happen" ?
TB didn't ride in on a silver charge at the last minute from nowhere to bail the project out. He was ALWAYS there to underwrite it. He just ended up underwriting a tiny smidgeon more than he'd originally anticipated.

I don't think its fair to say the club wouldn't admit to anything, why would they? The World had gone into financial meltdown, the club realised that funding through the banks was no longer an option, so they sought out alternatives and the deal with TB was done.

It certainly wasn't done overnight, but it was a pretty impressive feat all the same, but it's so unfair to point fingers at the club for anything to do with this. Prior to the Global financial mess the club had put together the plan for funding the stadium, they'd had 10 years or so to do it!. Then the banks go tits up left right and centre, and so the club, DK, MP etc. sorted it, rather than capitulating and admitting it couldn't proceed, just goes to show the dedication of the board of directors (all of them) remained despite everything thrown at them.

And these comment's where only a year ago, what fuc*ing numptys! Energy and karma, whats that all about?

Yeah. I also remember locking horns with various other idiots on the Argus website such as 'Osama bin there' and 'Ron from Hailsham'. They were so positive that they were right and the stadium wouldn't be built.

With every new bit of steel, concrete and brick etc that goes up I think of those dozy fuckers and piss myself laughing.

No wonder your friends run when you ask them to lend you a tiny smidgeon until pay day.

Exactly. Alrights its happening now but it very nearly didnt and no one at the club would admit it. Not exactly a situation I feel like crowing about.

Sorry, but after over a decade of putting up with their nasty, bitter, vindictive NIMBY shit, I shall crow like hell now the dream is becoming a reality.

...Conference football will, however, still be available at Withdean.

Really heartened to hear that Withdean 2000 will be reforming after taking back the stadium and gaining rapid promotion to the Conference. Very pleased with the positivity there, EasyBeaker.
