He's not a good referee, but I don't think he was as "big 6" focussed as many are (Kevin Friend I'm looking at you!)
I was a bit worried when he belatedly blew for a freekick, seemingly because of Odegaard's insistence he had been fouled when he hadn't.

My only complaint was with the way additional time was handled.
6 minutes was a joke, considering there were:

• 4 goals ( 2 with over 1 minutes celebration)
• 2 extended VAR
• 1 yellow card for timewasting
• Ramsdale warned twice about lengthy goal kicks
• 5 substitution stoppages

Arsenal's extended goal celebration seems to be a deliberate tactic.
Can't be all about time-wasting, as they did it after scoring in the first minute.

It is f***ing irritating though.

Agreed should have had a second yellow……and allowing the Arsenal goal Celebes to go on as long as they did was just taking the piss…..Martinelli and Nketiah dive a couple of times each..no card…Sarmiento once….carded….the guys a turnip

He also allowed Odegaard to persuade him to book Solly. He didn't have the card out until Odegaard started on at him.

The goal celebrations were way OTT, but it really is up to referee to get a hold of it, every time he let the Arsenal players fanny around with the soppy dancing, cringey huddles etc they were going to keep pushing it.

Especially irritating was the way he told them to return to their own half then did nothing when they continued to celebrate in their huddle in the middle of the pitch.
The laws state that the referee “must” caution a player who excessively delays a restart. He could have quite rightly booked all of those in those huddles!

Another referee who failed to do anything about blatant time wasting. Much like Aston Villa, Arsenal were at it from very early on but he just let them get away with it.

I thought he was absolutely correct in booking Sarmiento for that horrible dive,which I don't want to see from any of our players,so well done Mr Taylor.

Then a few minutes later makes one of the worst decisions a ref can possibly make,same player being hauled down in the box,the player probably realised he made himself look silly previously tried to stay on his feet,the ref the same Mr Taylor looking straight at it fails to give a spot kick.

A foul is a foul, you do not have to roll around in feigned agony to win a free kick,or so I'd thought,awful refereeing.

Yeah I’d agree with that, although Sarmiento stitched himself up by diving earlier.

I read that the English game (EPL etc) don’t want to follow FIFA’s lead in ….. carrying out time management correctly.

Citing concerns to player safety/heath should playing times extend.

Lamptey was so indecisive on throw ins I think the ref gave him a few extra seconds for him to decide which Arsenal player to throw it to.

I didn't say it did. I was just highlighting that we benefited from his inconsistencies, too.

Why didn't the VAR intervene if it was the worst decision a ref can make?

But that was certainly worthy of a yellow. Really pleased that March went for him but a well deserved yellow

In terms of his performance in terms of giving free kicks or not i thought he was okay, but not doing anything about the arsenal time wasting ridiculous. The time it would take for the arsenal players to slowly walk back to their own half after scoring, stopping for a chat a few times, was something I have not seen before. Utterly taking the piss because they knew the ref was weak. Each time the ref warned them, they ignored him, and he did nothing.

I thought March's tackle was worth a yellow, but also that it was no different to the one Saka made when he was already on a yellow.

Effective playing time has never been anywhere near 90 minutes.
