Incredible how we still got March producing nothing
Knocky all day long different level

A different level in the Championship most certainly, l would suggest though that he just didn't hit the same heights in the Premier League. Solly March is probably a lot easier to manage too.

But yes, no one got the heart racing like Knocky with his trickery and bursts of pace down the wing when he was on song.

Yeah he was crap against Man Utd at home nowhere near the level March is. Also crap in the FA cup semi final, useless against Watford, bang average goal against Palace….

Was never really the same after his wife and little boy moved back to France. I think that unsettled the lad massively. One of those players you could watch forever when he was on song.

Just where in my post did l say that he was crap or useless? Yes he had a few good games in the Premier League, but he just wasn't the same player who absolutely ran defenders ragged in the Championship.

Shock of the day. Bissouma made the pass in the 2018/19 game v Derby. What with lock down and no games thought Biss only arrived a last season.

He would never be as good as he was in the championship in the PL most players aren’t for a few seasons if at all. I do get annoyed when people trot out he wasn’t good enough in the PL as he clearly was.

I disagree. He had a few good games but he wasn’t able to reproduce this on a regular basis like he did in the Championship.

Err! No, signed by Chris Hughton in the Summer before his final season in charge. Remember him starting to get more and more of a run out towards the end of that season and him being one of the best players in the FA Cup Semi-Final against Citeh. Was already starting to show his promise back then and was one of the best players on the pitch that day.

Did any of the promoted squad do it every game? Murray went on barren runs, Dunk scored a shed load of own goals. To expect Knockhaert to produce in every game in the PL would of been ambitious.

I agree.

You could palpably see his frustration build from rarely beating of opposition left backs/defensive set ups. He seemed to up against superior athletes, with shrewder coaches.

We can still relish his incredible Championship football and like the guy as an Albion hero.

A rare EPL exception:

I certainly didn’t expect him to do it every game but certainly more than a handful.

I think this is the crux of the discussion i.e. the tricks he used in the Championship are simply not as effective against better players. I also felt players could read him quite easily..just cut off the inside channel, force him around the outside and it’s job done. Man U had a stand in left back in one game (name escapes me) who did this to great effect…even teasing Knocky at one point by showing him the inside so he committed then quickly cutting it off.

He has performed a huge part in our history though, and whilst he didn’t quite cut it in the top flight there’s no shame to be had from his Albion career.

No one here enjoyed his EPL demise, he was a hero, it was a shame to see it not working.

A couple of people here have used the thread to put their size 10’s into Solly. They’re independent subjects. Solly it seems will never be an EPL creator, but he has the pace in defence, concentration and work-rate over 90 minutes to be a nightmare for opposition wingers eg Zaha. Hughton and Potter didn’t/don’t play him because they’re idiots.

The finish just gets better every time you watch it. Incredible goal.

The thing is though in the premier league you rarely get the space and time he was given there. A more canny full-back would have known what he was going to do and blocked him or fouled him.

Isn’t Knockhaert more comparable to a Trossard than a Solly. These are the real creatives in the team. Frustrating and ‘edge of the seat’ talent in equal measure. Even yesterday I was shaking my head at some of Trossard’s play but you know a moment of magic isn’t too far away.
