There simply has to be more to come from him in terms of star quality.

There’s no way he could’ve been surrounded by as much hype as he was (based on actually playing a decent amount of games for Barca), to turn in such average/decent performances.

Surely he’s got a Mitoma/Pedro/Enciso style performance in him where he terrorises the opposition non-stop?

I thought we’d be getting a match-winner, which I guess we saw to an extent against Ajax, but beside that, at best he’s looked a good player in an attacking set up.

It’s different for every circumstance. As was said at the time the reported loan fee and wages were significantly lower than signing his equivalent on a full time deal.
Well , yes. But unlike a loan signing, a permanent signing is an investment.

Anyway I’m not bashing the club for showing the ambition to sign someone who not that long ago was considered one of the brightest talents in world football.

But it hasn’t proved to be a good signing. And I’m not adding a “yet” to that last sentence as even if the top level ability is still there (questionable) I don’t think he wants it enough.

Is Fati the new NSC scapegoat now?

I think he's done OK for us. Scored a few goals and looked a reasonable Premier League forward. Anyone expecting him to come here and tear up the Premier League would have surely asked themselves why Barcelona would be prepared to let him do that?

Let's see how he gets on for the rest of the season before judging his entire loan spell.

Gio Dos Santos says hi

Barca have a record of flogging youngsters that have looked good for them for a decent fee

Barca are not overly good, there is a reason they didn't want him to stay.

He may well still have a big input into the season, if he scores a couple of goals that mean Europe, he's paid for himself

Ludicrous comparison.

Anyone who follows European football knows how bright Ansu's star shone at Barcelona. That star was dimmed slightly by two incredibly unlucky injuries across two years. He's building his way back from that - that's why he's at Brighton and not starting for Barcelona... With Mitoma out, he's going to have to play a huge part in the remainder of the season.

It strikes me that Fati is possibly a confidence player and at the moment he's lost that trust in his body following another spell out injured, and that was part of the reason he was loaned out in the first place

We were starting to see what Fati was capable of just before his injury, he looked confident and starting to have more effect on games, now we are back to square one with him and he's playing within himself again. He needs another run in the side getting that confidence back, similar to what we've seen with someone like Lamptey who has started to look back to the player he was before all his injury troubles. However we are entering the business end of the season and low on numbers, so he might not get the time he and the club need.

What’s been evident this season with Fati is what Barcelona felt about him last season and why they hoped loaning him out would be the answer - mentally he’s not the same player he was before the injuries, something in his head is holding him back. That is why RDZ has been working so hard with him and saying the things he has recently. RDZ knows there’s a wonderful player in there but Fati needs to get over this mental block he has at the moment.

Last night was a classic example - the desire that the likes of Buonanotte and Enciso showed was in stark contrast to what we saw from him. He’s done ok for us this season but basically, Fati is playing at 90% of the player he could be these days.

I really hope something clicks with him soon as for those who didn’t watch him before the injuries, he was a joy and a unique talent.

Dos Santos was equally highly rated, scored a hattrick on debut I believe.

It's not even about starting for Barca, there are plenty of games he could have played for minutes, they would rather try and off load him

If it was purely about getting g the player back Barca would be covering close to 100 percent of the wages.

I mean none of that is remotely true. Dos Santos didn't score a hat-trick on debut in any competition. It was in his final game before they sold him to Spurs for €6m. Dos Santos was not the youngest player to feature for Barcelona in the Champions League, or the youngest goalscorer in the history of the competition. That was Ansu Fati.

Barcelona rated Ansu Fati so highly they decided to give him a new mammoth contract (in terms of both wages and length) after ten months of injury because he was rated seriously highly, not as the next Giovani Dos Santos.

Ultimately, 80% of wages are being covered by the Albion because Barca cannot afford to cover them as their salary cap continues to drop and that's what it costs at this level. If they were trying to offload him, he would not be at Brighton - we do not have the money to make it permanent. For comparison, Atletico Madrid sent Joao Felix to Chelsea for 6 months, all wages covered, and made €11m in a fee. If you're correct and that this move was because Fati is surplus at Barca and they want to offload then they're getting a bum deal.

So they don't value him enough to pay his wages and keep him around, but are happy to spunk wages on the likes of Adama last year?

How is it a bum deal for Barca? 80 percent of wages, no obligation to buy and a 11 million fee.

He's poor and they have had wages covered
He's good and there's no obligation and can ask what ever they want?

Contracts are nothing much to base players by, why are Barca in a mess? Over paying

Where have you got an 11 million fee from? That's what Chelsea paid for Joao Felix for six months on loan... We're paying 80% of Fati's wage, and that's it.

As I very clearly stated in my post, it's a bum deal for Barca if they wanted to offload him and him coming to Brighton is an attempt to claw back value on him. You seem to be ignoring the reports that we were not the only club interested in Ansu in the summer, we beat a lot of big teams to his signing. IF I have got this completely wrong and you are right, then Barcelona getting around €7m to cover 80% of his wages from us when there was a lot of interest in him in the summer is a good deal because we covered the wages?

It was an opportunity for him to get regular first team football in a progressive side, under an exciting manager, and continue to recover from his potentially career altering injuries. He's contracted until 2027 and will command a much bigger fee than Dos Santos ever did in his career if he is to permanently leave Barcelona.

Agree, except maybe 60 or 70% rather than 90.
It'll be hard or impossible for him to reach close to potential here against most of the PL teams. Have we noticed how he frequently gets taken out of the game? He'll play a last second touch pass (as we do, frequently) and the defender hareing down on him then takes him out with a body check... not obvious studs, but he's on the ground and the ref either hasn't noticed or waves play on because we have possession.
The above is normally when he has his back to the oppo goal.
He's safer, more creative when running forwards with the ball, but that's in an open game against the top 6 clubs only IMO.
