Another weather thread...

Following on from my previous thread about conditions outside the ground, on walking to the gym I noticed the gates to are multimillion pound sports stadium were open so I went in to look at the pitch... It's NOT GOOD to put it mildly.

The whole pitch is still covered in snow and ice while the outer running track could be used for ice skating in the winter Olympics. I know temperatures are set to rise but I would say that it is about 90% likely it will be off.

Anyone think NSC should maybe get a few guys together and help clear the pitch if needed?

Let the youth team do it!

It'll be warmer coming Boxing Day

I don't care who does it, just someone as there has been no effort made thus far. The state it is in at the moment there is no way it will magically go away whether it rains or temperatures rise a degree or so.

Withdean is in it's own micro climate and it will need people to remove the snow and ice.

If it's forecast to warm up (starting tomorrow!) then how the hell can you rate it 90% certain to be off?

Ludicrous

If you haven't been to look at the pitch then you haven't got a clue. The sun may shine yet due to the surrounding area the sun only beats down directly onto the pitch for a short space of time.

Just go and have a look and you will see what I mean.

I have enough clue to know that temperature isn't only reliant on sunlight...

Do you continuously look for an argument? Do you have enough clue to get my drift? It is f***ing freezing out there and it may be warming up but not by a great margin and the SURROUNDING AREA!!! makes temperatures at Withdean a few degrees lower than the rest of Brighton.

What you have done here is look for an argument and differ from the subject because you sir for once can't start a petty argument about something you have no clue about.

Do me a favor... GO AND LOOK AT THE PITCH:thumbsup: Your eyes will tell you what I already know. I want the boxing day fixture to go ahead but the lack of effort to clear the area suggests to me there is no chance.

Get a grip will you. Temperatures are due to drop tonight then the next few days the weather front will be changing and pushing in from the milder west meaning the days will be a little warmer and the nights won't be as cold. Anyway, clearing the pitch won't make a great deal of difference if the ground is bone hard underneath.

Why does it matter if the temperatures are below freezing during the night when the temperatures during the day will be enough to melt it all by Saturday.

Just because it's freezing now, doesn't mean it will be in THREE days time.

We have a groundsman. Let's leave it to him.

we all know that the pitch now gets zero sunlight a this time of year , and that sodding great building on top of the hill won't help much either ! due to this lack of sunlight i'm pretty sure that the stadium (in places) is a couple of degrees colder than the pub carpark .

Murraymints, sorry mate, but you are so, so wrong!

I too have seen the pitch, and it is mostly covered with a (small) layer of snow. But snow protects it from frost. Do you REALLY think that the groundsman, since SATURDAY morning when it set, have really just left it on the pitch for all this time for no reason at all?

Lewes match is on tonight. They'll clear the pitch friday afternoon, I should expect, and I don't even expect them to put covers on the pitch. There will certainly be no pitch inspection. Check the weather..

It's a lot easier to clear snow off the pitch than frost and ice. The pitch isn't a problem it's the stands and track. But the forecasts look positive enough at the moment for that not to be an issue.

Wasn't there a thread last year where someone got SLATED for suggesting a match might be called off, which did actually then happen?
