Just out of interest Thunder bolt, would you be disappointed if JFC was not in the team Saturday?

Thunder Bolt

Silly old bat
No, I am including cup games.
According to soccerbase, Burton was one of the wins without Jake.

Not picking on the kid, Im simply saying theres a disproportionate amount of wins when Jake doesnt start games.
Its a bit like Bales first real season at Spurs.

Yes, he was on the bench at Burton Albion but we've still won 6/10 matches with him. I went through the match reports on the OS.

It depends. I trust Hughton to pick the right players for the match.
I do get fed up with the mantra that if JFC plays, we lose. It isn't true, despite all the Argus comments and texts sent to Radio Sussex.

Mate, he's started every game this season bar 6.
Of those 6 he didnt start, we've won 4, drawn 1 & lost 1.
Thats a 67% win.
No other reg team member comes close
Like I said, Im not on at him, just saying.

Someone/somewhere went too early with the JFC love in.
I saw him score a great goal for England under 21's but have not seen much since.
We need two HARD BUGGERS in midfield to start with.
Holla n JFC aint them.

I think there is at least an element of truth to this. I seem to remember people painting him as the future of this club, even before his first team debut, and I don't recall ever seeing it. I don't mean I don't think he has ever played well, just that even his good performances were not that stand out for me, and was always aware of that promise people were saying he had.

I think we've also reached a tipping point. There comes a point where it goes from mostly mild opinions, whether positive or negative they are proportional, then you get one or two extremes and the mildly opinioned people respond to the more easily argued extreme opinions. It's easier to definitively argue against the opinion that "we never win when JFC plays" than to argue whether or not that shot was the right one to make, or whether those passes should have gone forward etc. Rather than "most of the people criticising him think he has failed to live up to his potential, but is young and there's still time, and while there are one or two writing him off as useless those extreme opinions should be ignored" it becomes "Why has everyone decided Jake is the worst player in the history of football?!"

This leads to a warping of the conversation. The moderate opinions are lost amid the extremes, and at that point any loss is his fault, most wins are despite him, the ones he plays well in are met with "one swallow doesn't make a summer", etc.

Could well be another case of a half-decent player from our youth team is bigged up to being the next Messi just because he is a homegrown lad and, surprise surprise, falls short of the ludicrously high expectations some have of him.
