that tweet content sums it up, alot of wishful thinking that there was something here. amusing responses in the CPS twitter, how democracy has come to an end, judiciary are corrupt etc, without apparently understanding the law or reading past the headline.

Funnily enough, when I worked for the CPS, before retirement, Keir Starmer was the DPP and head of it. Nice bloke and easy to talk to.

Read NSC?
CPS dropping a case is pretty common. If they feel there is a chance of not winning. That is quite different as to whether an actual crime has occurred. and evidence gathered. I have sadly experienced seeing the clearly guilty not prosecuted because CPS does not feel the evidence to be bomb proof. That is their job but it can be very frustrating.

they'll look at the evidence to see if you are likely to have known it was inaccurate or not. see, your funny note may well be valid if the law and the agency investigating deemed it to be innocent and not worth following up.

This was always going nowhere, reported constantly as Electoral Fraud- deliberately to make it sound like vote rigging, which I am pretty sure most people would say if you asked them what Electoral Fraud was, when in fact it was whether or not the cost of a visit by a coach with a nice (or nasty) slogan on the side should be nationally or local accounted for. As I understand it, they aren't even saying they didn't account for the expense, just put it on the wrong line of an accounts sheet. What a waste of police time and money. Should have let the electoral commission deal with it and fine them accordingly. (which they did to the tune of £70k I believe) Expensive mistake but hardly criminal behaviour and widespread electoral fraud
