Wir Sind das Volk
The Greys on Southover Street has closed. From their Facebook page:
We are very sorry to have to let you know that The Greys is no longer open. Marc has had to make the dreadful decision to cease trading. He's grateful to loyal customers and steps down having tried to carry on and grow the great reputation The Greys has acquired. Following in the bespoke shoes of Alan & Sue Grey, the inimitable Mike Lance, the bonhomie of Chris'n'Gill and the stalwart temp-tenure of Nathan has been an experience Marc cherishes, though, sadly, the economics of the roller-coaster have proved not to add up.
Big thanks to all staff, especially Mark R and Rodin C-S, who rode the ride; to Chef Mohammed, whose recent arrival saw the (too late) beginnings of a real turn around; to Paul / terrace cred. and Anthony Duke for rebuilding the reputation and audiences for great live music - to all those acts, local, countrywide and international who provided some of the very best live music in one of the very best intimate venues you could ever hope to find; to Ed for installing and handling an amazing, bespoke sound system that universally received tremendously positive feedback from artist and audience - and, of course, to the appreciative, listening audiences that have come to these unique gigs.
Hopefully, something will materialise to allow this great little pub to carry on - until then...
